Cons: bad smell, poor customer service, outgassing
My wife and I recently purchased a Tempur-Pedic mattress and excitedly looked forward to trying it out in our home with the assurance of the 90-day trial period. Almost from the moment it was delivered we realized we had made a mistake. The smell of the mattress has been overwhelmingly bad.
We called both Tempur-Pedic corporate and the store where we purchased the mattress and asked about the smell. We received a number of various and conflicting responses ranging from the mattress should not smell to it may take a couple months for the smell to go away. Tempur-Pedic store and corporate representatives suggested techniques for expediting the outgassing process including using a removing the outer covering and having our kids jump on the mattress. Some event suggested using a product like Fabreeze to mask the smell. After a week, we decided we did not want to live with the smell anymore and did not want the mattress even if the smell went away. We have doubts that the chemicals used on this mattress are harmless. We then began the process of trying to return the mattress.
It has been almost two weeks since we requested the mattress be removed from our house. The smell is not dissipating. We cant get anyone from the Healthy Back store where it was purchased to give a firm date on when it will be removed from our house. No one in Tempur-Pedic corporate will assist us with resolving this issue. Corporate says that we must work through the local retailer.
