| hwz1's Full Review: Tempur-Pedic Swedish Sleep System |
We have been hearing the ads for years now. The ads about how the Swedish Sleep System is revolutionary and so much better than any other mattress. The ads that prompt us to try one for a limited period of time. Through all these years I wondered if there was anything to this or if was just a great job of advertising.
When my wife and I bought out house we decided that since we needed a new bed, we would look into the Tempur-Pedic and see what all the fuss was about. We have been very pleased with our purchase.
Why? Well, for one we both must say that we are both getting wonderful night's sleep. Now whether or not this has anything, I have no idea. Regardless, when we get in we notice how comfortable the bed is that is always a good start. When we wake up in the morning, we immediately notice how well rested and refreshed we feel. Somewhere in between we must have gotten a great night's sleep and I have to think that some of the credit has to go to the mattress.
The company claims that you will always get a better sleep because their mattresses focus on pressure relieving. Essentially, the pressure relieving material is a material that is made up of tons of different fibers that enable the surface to feel different under the weight of your body- think of it as foam like material. The material will resist changing shape and then quickly return to the original shape after you get up. In essence, it molds itself to your body and the contours of your body. This means that your bed will never develop an outline of your body from you being in the same position for so many nights. To get an idea of what this means, check out the pillows that are sold to fit around your neck. The idea is the same.
It works and can actually be seen when you remove the sheets and covers and look at the mattress and then look at another mattress. The Tempur-Pedic mattress looks different in shape because it is. The mattress looks more firm and secure than what you are accustomed to and that is because it is.
What else? For one, the material and the bed is the same size and is set up just like any other bed. It is important- just like with any bed- that the bed be set up on a solid frame. The company also recommends that you purchase a mattress cover. This is simply a dust and mite cover that fits over the mattress. It is up to whether or not you should purchase the cover, but I have recently read that these covers are nothing more than a farce. Basically, a way for the mattress companies to get more money out of the consumers.
The one problem with Tempur-Pedic is that they are tough to come by. They are typically sold direct or through a specialty group of dealers (All mattresses claim that this is the case, but it is true with Tempur-Pedic.). Hence, they can be difficult to find. However, you can go to the company's web site and order direct. They will hit you with a shipping charge that is nothing to laugh at, but it is one way to get the mattress. The problem with this is that you really do need to lay on the bed and see if it is for you. At any rate, you can check the web site for dealers.
I would also add that you can expect a pretty hard sell when it comes to purchasing the Tempur-Pedic pillows. They are very comfortable- if not a little strange looking-but, again, you have try them to see if they are for you. We came close to making the additional purchase, but decided that we had made it all these years without and we could continue to do so.
The prices are pretty similar to what you pay for any other mattress. In other words, way more than you should pay for a mattress. Yet, that is industry-wide. The Tempur-Pedic mattresses range from around $500 for a twin bed to over $2000 for a full size king and are available in twin, queen, full, and king sizes. We found that these prices were basically in line with Sealy and Serta's better beds.
We are very pleased with our purchase. The bed is very comfortable and does meld to your contours as well as the company suggests. The bed seems to be one that will be long lasting (There is a pretty good 10 year warranty and an additional 10 years that are conditional.) and should stay comfortable. The bottom line is that this is far and away the most comfortable night's sleep either of us have ever had. To me that is the most important aspect of any mattress and why I highly recommend this one.
