| rat55her's Full Review: Tempur-Pedic Swedish Sleep System |
Heres another real life and a very disappointing experience with the Tempur Pedic mattress. We have been sleeping on traditional full size mattress all our life and with a child it started getting smaller and eventually decided to go for a king size mattress. Greatly impressed with the advertisement on the TV about no pressure points, no springs, can jump on the bed without tripping the glass full of water, feeling of sleeping in a cloud, relieving back pains, sound sleep without moving much and all that nice stuff we decided to treat ourselves with a King size bed with tempur pedic pillows. Apart from the chemical odor its covered very well in the above review we had lots of other issues with the bed like every time we turned or flipped on the bed we heard a creaking sound and it was very irritating. We called the retail store and got this fixed by replacing the box and the frame. However the bigger problem was I developed a very bad lower back and neck pain after just using the mattress for couple of days. Initially I thought I must have sprained some muscle. However the pain started getting worse every day I slept on the bed. Every morning I had to do stretching for at least 15 minutes before I can even begin my normal activities. Eventually tired of pain every morning I went to see my doctor for treatment and he referred me to the physical therapist for the back/neck pain. Till date I have attended 15 sessions and I still have back and neck pain but the good part is I dont wake up with troubled back/neck pain as I gave up sleeping on the tempur pedic bed and switched to my old tradional mattress. Since we no longer sleep on the tempur pedic bed, we decided to return it as we were still under 120 days of free trial. We had paid $1900 for a King mattress, the box and were told by he store owner that they have a sale going on and will add 2 tempur pedic pillows for $50 along with the frame. Now at the return time I am being told that they have a return policy and he will deduct $80 for the frame, $180 for the pillows and $250 for shipping and handling and will return me $1390. In my case I have no other choice but to return it as I cannot sleep on the bed I think and most of you will agree that loosing $510 is fine than waking up with bad back and neck pain. BTW, forgot to mention that I also wrote and called the tempur pedic service department to complain about the unexpected and untold charges and was told they could not help me as I had bought from the retail store instead of buying from them directly. After reading other reviews I am glad to learn somebody else also had issues with the back pain after using the tempur pedic and its not just me. Overall I have had a very bitter experience with the Tempur Pedic mattress and their service. Even after being warned about the porblems I faced you still prefer to buy the tempur pedic mattress I would suggest you buy it from tempur pedic itself instead of your local retail store as you will be charged only $159 in case you decide to return instead of retailers $510. Good luck and hoping this review helps you.
As per the request of few folks I am updating with additional information
Scenario 1: Sleeping on your back
My experience with the support system is that when you initially lay on the bed you get a nice feeling but then you start sagging on the mattress with all your back muscle stretched out and you will feel it. If you want to turn on mattress from this position and if you use your hand for support even the hand sags because of material used and the way its designed and these make uncomfortable moving positions.
Scenario 2: Sleeping on your side.
If you are sleeping on your side your movements on the bed are easy. However this position stretches your side muscles and you will wake up with bad back. Also sleeping on your side makes you more vulnerable to neck pain as your head sags through the pillow and you might wake up with stiff neck.
The details of the bed their sizes etc could be found at www.tempurpedic.com
