Terra Tints “Bloom” Is A Great Find (When You Can Find It)!

The Bottom Line: Terra Tints is the closest thing in quality and price that I can find to Burt’s Bees products and is worth the search it will take to acquire it!
My husband and I love to travel together, and one of our latest trips took us to the Celestial Seasonings’ factory, a place he has visited several times before but that was new to me. We browsed the factory a bit, test-tasting a few of the new teas that were about to hit the market and filling out a few surveys about our preferences in flavors and the like. We forwent the tour (something we will hopefully end up doing next year) but did stop in to check out the gift shop. Hubby began filling up a few hand baskets full of teas, both new flavors and old favorites, and I browsed the cosmetics section.
After having survived a Michigan winter a few years ago that was terrible on my poor lips, I swore to never allow anything but Burt’s Bees to touch my lips again. However, I became easily enticed by Alba Botanica’s Terra Tints, 70% organic, mineral tinted lip balms with chemical free SPF. After picking through the selection for a few good minutes, I found a shade that suited me best, Terra Tints “Bloom,” a light blossom color which is SPF 8.
Terra Tints “Bloom” comes in a slightly metallic-looking, 0.15 ounce tube. The tube is dark pink in color, though it is a lighter shade of pink than the product itself, which has a very faint purple and metallic tinge to it. When applied, the lip balm glistens on one’s lips, giving them the appearance of being freshly moistened as well as a bit darker than one’s actual lips would be. A lovely minty tingle accompanies the immediate softness that is felt directly after applying Terra Tints. The tingle lasts for about ten minutes after the first application and the softness is noticeable throughout the day. However, the mint tingle is from the peppermint oil in the product as opposed to any sort of medication, as this is not a medicinal product. Unlike other lip balms I have encountered, Terra Tints do NOT leave a sticky residue one one’s lips, which is a huge plus in my book. As well as tasting and feeling incredible, “Bloom” smells great too, like a mixture of soft floral and mint scents.
Application of the product is quite simple. As with most lip balms in tube applicators, all one needs to do is to remove the plastic seal that keeps the product tamper-free, pull off the cap at the top of the tube, and twist the dial at the base of the tube. Twisting the dial raises the stick of lip balm up within the tube so that more of the product is exposed above the surface. After that, all that is required is for one to liberally apply the product to their lips, though I would recommend doing so with the help of a mirror as this product is tinted and may give a “clown-like” appearance to those who just smear on the product as they might with a clear balm.
The only active ingredient listed on the tube is zinc oxide (5.1%), but other ingredients include organic coconut oil, organic olive fruit oil, candelilla wax, organic beeswax, castor seed oil and peppermint oil. It should be noted that this product may contain mica, iron oxides and titanium dioxide. It is also worth noting that this product is NOT TESTED ON ANIMALS, which is always a huge selling point for me.
My lips still remain (mostly) faithful to Burt’s Bees products, though once in a while I like to mix it up with Terra Tints, which I have found to be just as good a product at about the same cost, though a bit more difficult to find. Next year, when we travel back to the Celestial Seasonings’ factory, I’ll probably stock up on Terra Tints, though with the way I tend to go through good lip balm products, I foresee myself keeping Burt’s Bees on the side.
