My Fish's Favorite Food

Pros:The fish absolutely love them!
Cons:If you aren't careful, they can pour out too fast.
The Bottom Line: This is a good staple food for fish. I feed mine colorbits on a regular basis. Tetra Colorbits is my fish's favorite.
I don't know what it is about Tetra Color Bits, but it seems to be their favorite food. I pour a little bit into the tank, next thing, dozens of small reddish "tropical granules" are floating down through the water, and the fish are going crazy trying to eat as many of them as they can. The fish don't even go this crazy over frozen shrimp or plankton!

My Fish To review a fish food, I think its only fair that you meet my panel of experts. In one large 55 gallon tank, my test subjects are one large Red Devil, one orange and black Parrot fish, 3 Severum, one lone Gourami and one Albino Convict.
The Color Bits - Basics Tetra's Colorbits come in a bright bright yellow container with a bright red cap, you can't miss it in your local pet store. Tetra is also widely available at most Supermarkets. I purchased the 3.99 smal container which has 1.06 oz (30 grams) at my local Stop n Shop. I am certain that it is about a dollar cheaper at the local PetSmart. You take off the lid, and peel back the foil and pour out the small granules into your tank. I usually just make a hole in the foil, so I can pour it in, rather than pinch them. The granules don't lend themselves well to pinching.

Extras The container also recommends using this food in conjunction with their own Tetra flakes 2 or 3 times a day. I feed my fish twice a day, and they get a varied diet.
Tetra's Own Words Colorbits Tropical Granules is a slow sinking food that can be consumed in midwater where larger fish like Discus and Cichilds (Angelfish) prefer to feed. Colorbits is a highly nutritious diet which helps promote the development of vibrant colors of large tropical fish.
My Fish's Thoughts I am amazed at how much my fish like this food. I think it is partly because of the way that they sink slowly through the water, because the only other treat they like this will is frozen bloodworms, another food which floats slowly through the water (not to be confused with freeze DRIED bloodworms, which float on the top). Although my fish certainly eat the other foods, any food that floats on the water, they don't react to with the same enthusiasm as those that float down through the water.
Color I've had my fish so long, I really don't notice any change in color. They all have bright healthy color, but since I vary their diet, I cannot say which food is responsible for this.
Cloudiness If you overfeed your fish, this will cloud the tank. My son overdid it once with the colorbits, and the tank did get a bit cloudy, but cleared up within an hour or so. If you feed your fish only as much as they will eat, tank cloudiness shouldn't be a problem.
Summary Although I try many foods, a basic flake food, like Wardley's and this one, Tetra Colorbits Tropical Granules, will remain a staple in my fishes diet. It gets five stars.
