Tetra Whisper Power Filter is really as quiet as a whisper. I use one on my 10 gallon aquarium. It seems to filter my aquarium very well. It is not too expensive and is very easy to set up and operate.
First stuff:
Here I am, the first time setting up an aquarium, barely knowing all that I need to know about it all. I bought a Tetra Whisper Power Filter not knowing anything about aquarium filters. I found it at Wal-Mart and it was inexpensive and seemed easy to maintain. I was very pleased when I got home that it was really easy to set up to use. It has very good beginner style instructions that anyone could understand, even me.
Filters effectiveness:
My Tetra Whisper Power Filter seems to work great on filtering my 10 gallon aquarium. I love how you can replace the filters. You can buy replacement filters. Each filter cartridge comes complete with pre-measured packets of Whisper Ultra-activated Carbon Granules. The filters are thick, fluffy, and long lasting. By using them it creates pure, crystal clear water, and healthier fish. They help lock in the discoloration, noxious odors, dissolved contaminants, such as chlorine.
Filters job:
Filters are for converting ammonia and nitrates into harmless nitrates. When ever you feed your fish the food that settles at the bottom of the tank actually turns into harmful nitrates, which are poisonous for the fish. A good filter (like Tetra Whisper Power Filter), neutralizes those harmful things and purifies the water for your fish.
Low Cost:
I bought my Tetra Whisper Power Filter for around $10 for my 10 gallon tank. I am sure the bigger the tank the bigger the filter size you will need, resulting in bigger sizes to be more expensive. But for a 10 gallon tank my Whisper Filter works great. Filters are also inexpensive to buy. I bought a 4 pack of filters for around $5. Each filter can last up to a month. I change mine when they start looking green and icky. Just depends on your preference. They say to replace the filters when the water begins to overflow excessively from the Wonder Tube chamber.
Easy to assemble:
My Tetra Whisper Power Filter was pretty much all together except for the Bio-bag. Watch out for filters that have you put a bunch of pieces together to make it work. If you get it put together wrong it won't work properly, hence not helping your fish properly. The instructions were really basic ans easy to follow. The Bio-Bag is the fluffy white filter cartridge. All you have to do is: 1-Slip filter over Aerobic Frame. 2-Add one pre-measured carbon packet to the filter bag. 3-Clip the filter bag shut by folding the Aerobic Frame over bag then clipping with clip. 4-Rinse filter under cool tap water to remove any carbon dust. 5-Insert filter into "V" slots.
Almost too quiet:
The Tetra Whisper Power Filter is almost too quiet. I enjoy the soothing sounds that an aquarium makes. The rippling water sound. But my aquarium is very quiet. If I were to choose another filter system I think I would try finding one that make that rippling water sound. This is the only thing that I don't like. But what is more important is that the filter system that you use cleans and filters your aquarium. Making the aquarium a pure and healthy environment for you fish to live and grow.
