Pros: affordable, microfiber shell is soft, machine washable
It was time for a new pillow. When I saw The Big One Microfiber Pillow on sale, I thought it a great deal. I had purchased other Big One products and was pleased with them, so I thought to give this pillow a try.
This white pillow measures 20" x 28" and is labeled as "standard". It has a microfiber shell, which the manufacturer states will keep the pillow feeling soft after repeated washing. Fabric contents are listed as polyester. This pillow is machine washable.
A comfy new bed pillow is one of life's little luxuries. When I saw the Big One Microfiber Pillow, the price was right and it looked and felt like a quality pillow. I even plopped the pillow on one of the store shelves and rested my arm on the plastic packaging cover to test the pillow's firmness and resilience. The pillow felt right. So into the cart it went.
I always place my bed pillows in "pillow protectors". A pillow protector looks like a pillowcase, except it has a zipper on one side. This helps keep the pillow safe from dust and potential staining. A pillow protector is also a good idea for those with allergies (yes, allergies are a regular part of my existence). Once the pillow is in its protective casing, I cover it with a pillowcase.
I've been using this pillow for over a month now. At first it was ideal. The microfiber casing is soft. The softness allowed me to bunch the pillow a bit for a little added height. The pillow felt comfortable beneath my head, and I slept well using it.
Fast forward a month and a bit. This pillow did not hold what firmness it possessed. The Big One Microfiber Pillow is now too soft. My head feels like it is resting directly on the bed. There is no loft. In order to "lift" the pillow enough for any comfort while sleeping, I need to bunch and fold the pillow.
The other day I wanted to lie down and do some reading. Other pillows I have used allowed my head to rest comfortably at a slight angle. Not this pillow. My head feels as though there is no pillow beneath it. The pillow is so flat that no angle exists, making reading or doing a simple crossword puzzle uncomfortable.
Perhaps the adage you get what you pay for is accurate in this case. The pillow was inexpensive, and it did not last. I foresee pillow shopping in my immediate future.
I bought this pillow from Kohl's. It retails for $9.99. I bought it on sale for $4.99 and had an additional 15-percent off the price with a coupon.
If you are looking for a temporary throw-away pillow, The Big One Microfiber Pillow is an ideal candidate. However, if you are hoping for a pillow to last longer than a month, then I recommend choosing a different brand.
I hope you found this review useful.
