Terrific debut

Rated a Helpful Review by the Epinions community
Pros:strong plot, good characterization, terrific setting, suspense, pace, leaves you wanting more.
Cons:none
The Black Echo is Michael Connelly's first mystery, first book to feature detective Harry Bosch. I will agree with all the other members who state Connelly is terrific.
The Black Echo, being the first book, is exceptionally strong. Harry Bosch is called to look at a body found in a tunnel. When it turns out the victim served with Harry in Vietnam as a fellow tunnel rat, then the case becomes real personal. As the investigation continues, Harry is drawn into a federal investigation involving banks, Vietnamese illegals and a crooked agent.
The pace intensifies as the search begins to narrow down and the suspects begin to die. To say anymore would be to give the plot away. To all the members who have written reviews of Mr. Connelly's other books, I say, read the first one and you will understand why this author is brilliant.
Readers who like Michael Connelly mysteries should try these other authors: John Sandford, Dennis Lehane, Robert Crais, and James Lee Burke.
I highly recommend this novel.
