angelwithhornz's Full Review: Bradley Trevor Grieve - The Blue Day Journal/the B...
"Everybody has blue days" so begins this quaint little self-help book written by Bradley Trevor Greive. The message is simply written & accompanied by some terrific black and white images of animals in cute and often humorous situations.
This book is not Shakespeare & no it does not solve any problems but what it does is so much more. It will make you smile (great therapy) & it will remind you of all the wonderful things life has to offer.
This was given to me as a gift when I was having the odd blue day (or month or two) it worked its magic with its very simple message and positive spin on life. If I find myself getting down I often pull this little book out to remind myself that life has so much to offer!
The blurb reads
"Everybody has blue days. Oh, what to do, what to do? Who knows what fantastic things are in store just around the corner? Get out there and go for it! Live every day as if were your last, because one day it will be."
The words are simple and its message is clear but I am sure it would not have the same impact with out the wonderful humorous images. There are a staggering 92 photographs in this little book all accompanied by a sentence or in some cases a word. I say staggering because it was not until I actually sat down and counted them that I realised the enormity that this project must have been for the author. Each image manages to capture and compliment the words. Although some of the photographs have been staged and assisted with props, the majority show the world's animal kingdom at its finest, in natural habitat. One of my personal favourites is a Lion pulling a face like one would if you had a toothache, the accompanying words, "a dodgy filling" Credit must go to the photographers!
The book is not filled with inspirational quotes, it reads like a story starting with things that can cause one to have a bad day. How a bad hair day, work, not feeling or looking the best can escalate into one becoming sad or even depressed. Grieve then moves onto highlighting all the positives in life, the amazing things to discover, dancing, laughter, cuddles, romance and oh so much more. Some of the simple pleasures in life that we tend to forget when we are having a bad day!
Physically it is only a little book (10cm by 10cm) but for such a little book it certainly has a lot to offer.
This book works well as a small gift (even for yourself) to let someone know that you care. I myself have given this book to a couple of friends who were having a blue day patch in their lives. It was much appreciated!
