| Javelina's Full Review: The Body Shop Bath Glove Natural |
I did some Christmas shopping at the Body Shop, knowing that I would be able to find some items for gifts. As soon as I saw the exfoliating gloves, I knew it was a perfect item for my husband. These gloves cost $6.00, and I believe I got a discount because I also bought an exfoliating towel, which is simply a large square of the same material.
I had several colors to choose from:
- white
- silver
- natural
- orange
- yellow
- green
I also saw cranberry color gloves, which I assume corresponds to their seasonal cranberry items.
Each set of gloves comes as a pair. They have a loop on each one that allows you to hang them.
My Thoughts & Experiences
As I mentioned earlier, you get a pair of gloves, which is why I am reviewing this product. Once again, I am gaining a reputation with my husband for stealing the very Body Shop items that I am giving him as gifts! (Especially the Coconut Body Butter!) Originally, I bought them as a Christmas gift, but when we got back from our honeymoon in Mexico and had that itchy dry skin from sunburn, I broke them out early because I knew they were needed! I'm not talking about large raw peeling areas, just dry flaky skin that has already peeled but still needs exfoliation.
I picked green to fit in with our shower/bathroom decor, and because it isn't too girly. The gloves look small but are pretty stretchy, so they fit both my husband and I. They are like the really cheapie winter gloves that stretch out to one size fits all. We each use one glove, which is why we are able to have one a piece.
The Body Shop gloves are definitely great for exfoliation. At first I thought they might be too harsh, but I actually like the fabric. It feels sort of odd on my palms as I scrub, but not irritating. I hate using a wash cloth, and always use body poufs (the meshy nylon ones). I like to feel like I am scrubbing my skin, but not damaging it or being too rough.
Pour a small amount of body wash onto the gloves and rub over the body in circular movements.
The gloves seem to almost soften when they are wet. I usually use a body wash and the occasional bar of soap, and lather it up in my palm.
For extra exfoliation, use with a scrub from The Body Shop Bath & Body range.
I actually bought Body Shop Coconut Scrub, but have yet to use it. I find that the texture of the gloves is sufficient exfoliating on its own. I will update my review if I have any new findings when using a scrub in conjunction with the gloves!
Use two to three times a week for maximum effect. Regular exfoliating and massaging can help tone and firm the skin.
I use these gloves generally on a daily basis, or at least close to it, especially with our dry winters. My skin seems smoother and healthier. I have definitely noticed my husbands skin looks great, a definite improvement. The sneaky one I am, I have been using self-tanner since I got home from our honeymoon in November to maintain the tan I had. Honestly, I try not to sun myself too much because I hope to stave off at least some skin damage. As with any self-tanner, the bottle will tell you to exfoliate.
Rinse after use and hang to dry.
I have heard of other reviewers saying that their gloves became dirty. As a preventative measure, I throw these in the washing machine every so often, especially since they sit with moisture in them as they dry this way, they dont get shower curtain syndrome!
Overall
I have no complaints about these gloves. It is a great way too exfoliate without being too weak or too harsh. I have noticed a noticeable improvement in the appearance of my husband's skin, and I myself feel smoother (especially helping in getting rid of those little bumps on my legs). These gloves are great year-round, but also for dry areas, itchy dry skin, bumpy areas, sunned skin, pre self-tanner application, and more. A great Body Shop item for girls and guys!
And if you prefer, you can always opt for the towel over the gloves. It is made out of the same material and is about the size of a face or hand towel.
