The Body Shop Cocoa Butter Body Butter was the first of many from the Cocoa Butter line of products offered by The Body Shop that I fell in love with. I've used this product most every day for several months and am just now running pretty low on my 6.9 oz tub (which costs $16). Its also available in a smaller 1.75 oz tub, but the larger tub is a better deal. But if you like to try out a product first or try out lots of different scents then you might consider getting the smaller tub. This is just one of several Body Butters that I've tried from the Body Shop and thoroughly enjoy including a Coconut one and one in Chocolate & Orange. The butters are formulated for different types of skin, this particular Cocoa Butter one is for Very Dry Skin which fits my bill.
My Experience
My most favorite thing about The Body Shop Cocoa Butter Body Butter is the way the product smells. A little bit of chocolate, a little bit of vanilla, a little bit nutty - its heavenly. The scent is actually quite heavy so I really think its a love it or hate it type of deal. Once you rub it into your skin the scent will stay with you for a long time - hours. I also use several other products in this line including the body wash and the body scrub - each has their own unique scent but I have to say the body butter is the one that smells the best to me.
The product itself is a thick creamy lotion that you scoop out of a similarly colored tub and apply it to any area of your body that needs moisturizing. I find that its particularly absorbed in the best and does the best job if I use it right after a long bath or shower. It feels fabulous going on and makes my skin feel super soft. Applying it has become almost a relaxation ritual for me, especially at the end of a long day. Even my 4 year old son loves the feel of this lotion getting rubbed all over his body and will ask me for it (its too darn cute!).
Since this lotion is for very dry skin, some might find the product to be too heavy or even on the oily side - and have better luck with one of the body butters formulated for a different skin type. I've not found this body butter to be greasy or oily but can imagine that if my skin were not so dry that it literally drinks it in, that this might be the case. The other thing about this body butter is that really you only need to apply a little bit of it in order to adequately moisturize your entire body.
Regarding Stretch Marks
I've heard rumours that this Body Butter and similar products can actually reduce stretch marks from appearing during pregnancy. Now, I currently am more than 7 months pregnant and have been using this since some time in the first trimester. The skin on my stomach is extremely itchy alot of the time and I've found that using this has helped to reduce that itchy feeling substantially. As far as stretch marks go, I do have a few but they aren't too bad. I'm not sure how much I can or cannot attribute this to using this product. I think with anything like this - your mileage may vary.
When I first purchased this body butter I also purchased another moisturizing product from the same line, on recommendation - the Cocoa Butter Moisturizing Stick. The moisturizing stick happens to be very very popular for pregnant women at relieving itchy bellies and touting off stretch marks. Though I use the moisturizing stick, I actually prefer the consistency of the Body Butter over it and the way it feels going onto my skin. If you are pregnant and considering this line of products my personal choice is for the butter over the stick.
Overall
If you like the cocoa butter smell and are looking for a solution to your very dry skin, then look no further than The Body Shop Cocoa Butter Body Butter. While I don't believe it to be the be all and end all to stretch marks I love the way the product smells, feels and what it does for my dry skin!
