One of the first lines of products from The Body Shop that I fell in love with is the Cocoa Butter line, and this scrub is part of the reason I'm so hooked!
About The Body Shop Cocoa Butter Body Scrub
The manufacturer makes the following claims about this scrub (as taken from their website):
With ground rice, almond, and Community Trade soy oil from Brazil to polish dry skin into serenity.
The product comes packaged in a plastic tub that is clear with a dark brown lid that screws off. The scrub is available in one size only - 8.3oz which sells for $16.00. You can purchase this at a Body Shop retail store location, from their online website at www.thebodyshop.com or via a Body Shop At Home Representative.
My experience
One of the reasons I enjoy the Cocoa Butter line of products from The Body Shop is its awesome scent. At the same time, I have to say that each different product in the line has a distinctly different scent to it. I fell in love with the sweet cocoa and vanilla yummy scent (and heavenly feel) of the Cocoa Butter Body Butter, and I expected this product to smell just like it. So, I was surprised but not disappointed when I first opened up my tub of this The Body Shop Cocoa Butter Body Scrub.
Upon opening the tub you'll find a light tan color product with a very creamy consistency and teeny tiny dark brownish red particles suspended in it. The scrub looked like no other scrub I'd seen before and when I stuck my fingers into the container to scoop some out I was also quite surprised by the smooth, whipped, creamy texture that is so different than any other scrub I've used (usually oily, sugary, salty, scratchy or what not).
The scent of The Body Shop Cocoa Butter Body Scrub is incredible. Compared to the sweeter smell of the body butter from the same line, this scrub has a warmer, nuttier, roasted scent that reminds me so much of Marzipan candy. I'm sure this is because the exfoliating ingredient in the scrub happens to be ground up almond.
To use the scrub simply scoop a little out and rub it all over your body. I use this in the shower and adore the way that it feels. Going on, its not scratchy or harsh at all on my sensitive skin and feels almost like a massage as I work it into my skin with my fingertips. Rinsing it off can be a bit more tricky - it seems as if the little exfoliating almond/rice particles have the affinity to cling to my skin. But, once rinsed thorougly your skin will feel so smooth to the touch that you will want to use this product nearly every time you shower - though, since its a scrub a few times a week will suffice.
The only real downside of this scrub has to be the fact that it leaves a bit of a mess in my shower. If I'm not careful to spray down the walls of my shower with the handheld nozzle before I get out of my shower I've found that the next time I go to shower there are these small clumps of reddish brown "stuff" that are dried up and too big to go down the drain. However, this is easily avoided if I simply take that extra minute to make sure no scrub is left behind before I get out of the shower. So, any mess left later is only due to my own laziness.
Plus.. Well, at $16 a tub I could go through this way too quickly. The creamy consistency which I love so much also makes it really easy to just reach in and scoop out lots of it. Because it feels great, smells great and delivers awesome results I'm tempted to use it more than I really need to I'm sure. Sadly, my tub of The Body Shop Cocoa Butter Body Scrub is now empty and I've moved on to a few different scrubs from The Body Shop including a similar one in their special holiday line with a Chocolate & Orange scent. But, I'm pretty sure that I'll be purchasing this Cocoa Butter scrub sometime again in the future.
