| Caleo's Full Review: The Body Shop Pineapple Facial Wash |
When I was in college I had the unique experience of sharing an apartment with my friend Ruthie. She was an artist, prone to wearing fish net stockings with army boots, mini skirts and great, thick strokes of black eyeliner. Incense was a common fragrance, wafting intensely through our small two bedroom apartment on hot, summer days. She was peculiar and devious, but she was a delight to be with.
And she worked at the Body Shop.
She had a huge cedar box devoted to her Body Shop collection which was crammed full of scented oils, massage lotions, soaps, foundations, pots of eye colours and lipsticks. She often attempted to perform her magical makeovers on me, all the while educating me on animal cruelty, the importance of all natural ingredients, the dangers and pollutions we humans are filling our world with, the plight of women in Africa. Her goal was to transform me into something closer to exotic, at least something closer to "cool", but I was too tame to ever aspire to her punk-like looks. But if she ever did anything right by me, it was introducing me to The Body Shop Pineapple Facial Wash.
After a particularly lengthy session, I emerged looking more like Tammy Faye than myself. She had gotten a little carried away, lost in talk, and lulled by the knowledge that is was a quiet Friday night, or perhaps the incense was just too strong. Whatever the reason, I had on a great deal of make-up, layers and layers of different colours, mascara so thick it was hard to blink. "No offense Ruthie, but can I please wash this off now?"
And out came the The Body Shop Pineapple Facial Wash. "You'll love this stuff" she proclaimed, waving the open jar around for me, letting that gentle pineapple fragrance fill the air. And she was right. I did love it. And it gave me face back.
This is a creamy smooth cleanser, exuding a delicate yet refreshing pineapple scent. It is a non-lathering product that is easily applied by gently smearing it all over your face and neck. You should feel perky already. Remember to close your eyes tightly as you work away at ridding yourself of stubborn mascara and eye liner. It rinses easily in the shower or sink and leaves behind clean skin. Glowing skin. Skin that has been gently exfoliated by the acidity of the pineapple extracts. Skin that feels soft and moisturized, and free from make-up and greasy residues that some lotions tend to leave behind.
This is a fantastic cleanser for normal to oily complexions, and it worked wonders on my combination skin. Simply put, my skin just felt more balanced. The t-zone was less oily, and the dry patches were less dry. The moisturizing properties improved the overall texture of my skin as well so that foundation was easier to apply, and glided on over areas that tended to look course due to enlarged pores and rough patches. Break-outs became less frequent as my ever-so-volatile complexion enjoyed this natural and clean balance. Perhaps too because I was less apt to skip the night time face washing routine (no matter how exhausted), lured by pineapple scent and the promise of a cool feeling face.
Indeed, there is nothing like starting the day with fresh face forward. And using The Body Shop Pineapple Facial Wash in conjunction with the sassy orange fragrance of Satsuma Bubbles will do wonders in lifting your spirits and washing away the grayness of thick-headed mornings. I have used this for close to ten years now, and if I occasionally smell like fruit salad, then you know I had fun that morning. It tends to be a bit pricey, so more often than not I resort to using less expensive cleansers so that I can "spoil" my four kids a bit. Hubby, love of my life, though, usually comes through for me every Christmas with a stocking full of Body Shop products.
I'm not sure whatever became of Ruthie, we lost touch after a few years. But I always think of her when I open a jar of The Body Shop Pineapple Facial Wash.
Or smell incense.
