The Boy Battles Blemishes
What did I do about it? Bought up all of the high-priced faddish skin care products I could find, of course. One of the shops I raided was the Venice The Body Shop, on Ca' Doro, where I had already found the highly effective Blue Corn Scrub Mask. This time I found a more direct weapon in the battle against my humidity breakouts, The Body Shop's Sage & Comfrey Blemish Gel.
I've now been using the gel for two months and I love it. I've found it a lot more effective than the blemish gels I bought from other fad shops, I'm talking to you Bath & Body Works, and here's why:
The Advantages
1.Blemish Effectiveness-This gel is a ruthless blemish killer, eliminating its oily enemies without mercy or hesitation. More than just a long-term treatment to slowly phase out pimples, this is hardcore power that really attacks the little buggers. In fact, a healthy application get rid of the smaller blemishes in only one to two nights, which makes it an indispensable tools for when you have those pre-event breakouts that always come before your big nights out. It's also great at working off big pimples as well, but the larger ones can take more time, as with any treatment. The bottom line is that it will get rid of your embarrassing marks quickly.
2.Redness Effectiveness-While blemishes are bad enough, the redness that radiates off them is even worse, making the blemished look twice as large. A lot of anti-blemish solutions only exacerbate that redness, but The Body Shop Sage & Comfrey Blemish Gel actually helps to control this embarrassing condition.
3.General Tone-I find that a light application of the product leaves my skin looking very glowing and healthy, giving a bit of freshness even to those parts of my face that weren't oily to start with. What's that mean? Not only is the blemish gel a great spot solution for breakouts, but it can even be used occasionally as a facial toner in a pinch, especially when there's a light breakout all over the face. Cleaning and toning as it goes, it's a one-stop facial fixer.
4.Price-I believe I paid in the ballpark of $6 for my Sage & Comfrey Blemish Gel, which might seem expensive until you consider that facial products are hardly ever found for less than $8-10 these days. Also, as a little bit goes a long ways this gel will give you the most for your money, lasting a least a couple of months.
The Disadvantage
1.Rubber Bands- If my skin is feeling a little dry when I use the Blemish Gel, I find that it tends to make my skin a little tight and slick like a rubber band. For me this is an annoyance, while it seems to me that many people would view this as a valuable toning effect. The choice is yours…
2.Smell-While I enjoy sage while preparing meats and stews, its odor is not one I consider to be pleasant on my face. And comfrey, well that smells like comfrey, and it gives the whole gel a slightly medicinal quality. This is surprising when you consider that The Body Shop has built an empire on sweet smelling vanity products, but no so surprising if you've ever sampled their stinky Hemp product line.
All in all, in my not so humble opinion, a bit of unpleasant smell is a very small price to pay for an effective facial treatment, and it dissipates after a few seconds anyway.
The Final Verdict
Like the majority of facial products coming out of its store, The Body Shop's Sage & Comfrey Blemish Gel is highly effective and reasonably priced, when compared to other high-end products of course. A powerful solution to blemishes both large and small, it's the perfect spot shooter to keep in your medicine cabinet for that inevitable stress or humidity induced breakout. I highly recommend this product to everyone…
