| LaFeet's Full Review: The British Beer Company |
Located primarily in the Northern regions near the coast, the British Beer Company offers an excellent selection of foods as well as beers.
I myself 'ave been away for a spell...... but shall try to remedy that in the next few months.
I have had the pleasure of being employed near one of the six bars within the British Beer Company nexus. And I thank the heavens for being there.
Ambiance
Set in a rustic and historical part of the country the British Beer Company provides an excellent and comfortable surrounding. The noise level is not overly loud near the bar area and very pleasant in the dining areas. I have no problems hosting guest nor treating my family to dinner in this establishment. The decor is an early American setting with hints to our heritage as well as ties with our English past. Lighting is soothing and the ventilation prevents any unseeming odors from drifting about.
Entertainment provided by local and distant parties. Giving an Irish/Scottish tint to the evenings dining / drinking.
Menu
While not sporting a traditional "British" menu, the British Beer Company does offer a wide selection of fine dishes for the finicky "American" palate. Some of our favorites were:
Imperial Crab Cakes
Fresh crabmeat and stuffing served with wasabi sauce
Porters Potato Skins
Potato skins loaded with Mozzarella and crumbled bacon and served with chives and sour cream
Beer Battered Pot Stickers
Wasabi plum sauce glazed and showered with sesame seeds
Buffalo Chicken Salad
Served over crisp greens, onion rings, celery sticks and plenty of Bleu cheese dressing
New England Clam Chowder
Traditional stew from a region where they KNOW how to make it right
Stout Onion Soup
Caramelized onions in a creamy stout beef stock topped with herbed croutons and finished with melted Swiss (I omit the rotten milk products due to my alergy)
Tuscany Salad
Fresh field greens, Roma tomatoes, fresh Mozzarella covered by roasted garlic balsamic vinaigrette (really good without the cheese)
The Green Monster (a favorite salad)
Baby spinach and greens with boiled egg, mushrooms, red onion and fresh grilled boneless breast of chicken served with a warm mushroom and bacon vinaigrette
Fish N Chips (traditional standby)
Deep fried haddock covered with a Fullers London Pride Beer batter
Bangers & Mash (almost like over there)
Grilled pork and potato sausages served over mashed potatoes and topped with gravy and fried leeks
Grilled Black Angus burger, roasted red peppers, caramelized onion, Cheddar and our special sauce
I never got around to trying the King Jameson Steak or any of their Pasty's, but the locals all swear by them.
Beers
Okay, the real reason why I show up here before they open the doors.
I love the selection of beers on tap. I think I might be persnally responsible for ensuring Witchwood brewery's success here in the states. The do sport the unseemingly "American" beers with a show of the "Big Three". But I have not tried an of those in some time.
There is a beer for anyone willing to try one. I enjoy Newcastle off tap more and more as I mature...... of embalm myself.
Prices
While not as cheap as a "Taco Bell" or "McDonalds" for a family night out, I did manage to feed a family of five for about twenty dollars a person (including tip and alllllll my beers). There is a kids menu to help reduce the family price. And the cost of pints at the bar are more than fair...especially when they charge only a bit more for real beer.
Experience
I can't help but mention that I went to this place more than a few times. I Enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and excellent service. During the day time I feel that this is more of an adult haunting place, saving the family for the evening meal time. Of course, the entertainment was always a hoot after the little ones were put to bed. All in all, a fantastic meeting place or locale for a family outing.
