| Aril's Full Review: James Tully - The Crimes of Charlotte Bronte: The ... |
Never having known the history of the Bronte's, I was intrigued by the idea of this novel. James Tully is a criminologist who presents his findings on the Bronte sisters in the form of a diary of the Bronte's housekeeper. Within this memoir, many very disturbing questions are raised and answered.
I found the format of the novel to be very entertaining. I have always had a hard time reading novels of the Bronte era because of the prose and wording, but this was easy to read. The commentaries by the "lawyer" between each chapter of the diary help to clear up any discrepancies, clarify any events that were not described completely, and corroborate events with written evidence. Whether or not Tully has answered the questions listed in the dustjacket of the book is up to the reader to decide!
