game_n_stuff's Full Review: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for Xbox 360
This game is the sequel to Morrowind, the third game in the Elder Scrolls series. Morrowind was a hard contender to beat, but oblivion tops it. The graphics are amazing at first but quickly lose their charm, because as in every game, after a couple of days of playing, you just forget about the graphics, the first day you admire them, but after that, they are just normal. The frame rate holds up almost all the time. The sound in this game is pretty good, the music fits well, and it has good voice acting, the only thing that I can complain about is that there is very bad lip-syncing.
This game is a First-Person RPG. This game is different from other RPG's because of its giant map, that takes hours to explore. You get plenty of hours of play just in the main story line, with no side quests.
The fighting system in this game is pretty much like youd imagine a first-person fighting system to be like. You are in first person, but with your sword/bow in vision, and you attack using the right trigger.
This game is very easy to catch on to, and the controls are just as you would expect them to be. Right Trigger: Attack, Left Analog Stick: Move, B: Inventory, A: Jump.
In this game you fight a mixture of creatures, humans, and...other. Other being ghosts, zombies, skeletons, etc. As you explore this map, you will find creatures everywhere, there is not a spot on the map where there are not creatures.
The main weapons in this game are swords of all kinds. Claymores, longswords, short swords, everything. But there are also bows, not quiet as popular, but very effective, you can attack enemies before they can see, or notice you. But my favorite kind of weapons are the enchanted kind. For example if a sword is enchanted with fire, it would do 5 extra points of fire damage, plus the damage that the sword would normally do. There can also be enchanted bows and staves. Staves (in my opinion) aren't that great, they are long range but don't deal much damage, and can run out of casts, but swords, and bows can also run out, swords get broken, and so do bows.
Dungeons is where most of the fighting goes on though. Dungeons are great for leveling up, but easy to get lost in. There are a lot of enemies down in the dungeons, so you get good, and helpful drops.
There is a great deal of items in this game, there are weapons, armor, accessories, potions, and a lot of different kinds of everything.
There are stores to shop at, most of them being in the imperial city, which is the biggest city that I have discovered yet. The only problem with the stores is that if you have something worth 6000 they can only pay you 1000 because thats all they have, and i havent found a richer city yet, so thats one of the problems.
You can also do magic, from healing spells, to defensive spells, to weakening spells, and spells that do damage. spells are effective, but of course, like in every other game that has spells, they are limited by mp. Your mp goes up by walking around, or by potions.
The leveling system in this game is very unique, you don't know when your going to level up, and you can level up on a couple things, such as acrobatics, athletics, strength, personality, and more. After you get enough of those levels up, it will tell you to go rest and meditate what you've learned, so when you go sleep, it will let you choose what you want to get up (example you get from level 7 to 8, but with that you get to choose to level up other things).
A great feature is the Arena, its like an Ancient Rome arena. Two contestants go head to head against each other, every contestant has a different weakness and strength. You can either be in one of these, or you can bet on them. If you compete in one of these fights, you get money, and the more you kill, the more money you make. This is only one of the fun features of this game.
A disappointing feature of this game is that on the box it says "XBox Live" but all there is is a chat room, and online scoreboards.
A good feature in this game is that you can choose a different type of character in the beginning. Each one having its pros and cons. Some can see in the dark while others are good at magicks.
There are side-quests and main quests. Mostly puzzles, but some are exploring and finding artifacts and bringing them back for prizes.
There is a plot to this game, its just I don't understand it.
This game is very realistic, like, the more items you have the slower you are, and you can get diseases from rats.
