| eppoolguy's Full Review: The Endless Pool |
I installed my Endless Pool about 7 years ago when my wife was pregnant with our first child. We are now expecting our fourth but that is another story!
I use the pool about twice a weekmore in the winter and less in the summer when I augment my swims with running workouts. In the last seven years, I have completed three marathons and use the pool as a cross training tool and for stretching and recovery. My long-term goal is to reduce the stress on my knees so I can keep running well into old age.
I was pleasantly surprised that the installation was relatively easy. With help from my brotherin-law to carry the pool panels into the basement, and the Endless Pool instructional manuals and videos, I installed the pool myself in about 3 weekends. I did retrofit a cover a couple of years later that took about a day to install.
To date the pool has been relatively maintenance free. I have only had one or two minor issues the pool heater had a problem and needed a replacement part and after a hurricane caused a power outage the electric controller needed to be replaced a couple of calls to the excellent Customer Service department had the pool back up and running in a couple of days.
The cost to run the pool is about half that of my wifes gym membership (she is trying extra hard to work off the baby pounds), or about $35 a month using Off-Peak electric. Water Quality has been a snap it only takes about 5 minutes a month. I add about half a cup of Chlorine after a swim and thats about it.
A year or two ago, tired of my poor swimming form, I decided to try to rebuild my swimming stroke my goal wasnt to be the next Michael Phelps but to improve my efficiency and bilateral breathing. Using the Total Immersion method I spent a Christmas vacation in the pool practicing my balance drills (and thinking Im never going to get the hang of this) until finally it clicked and my stroke started to improve to the point where I now feel very comfortable and proud of my new stroke (the immediate feedback made possible by the underwater mirrors was awesome).
Overall the pool has proved a worthwhile investment. A great feature of this pool is that it gets used unlike other types of exercise equipment. Finally, my kids love being able to swim year-round, especially when theres a foot of snow outside.
