Hi Mary (Reply to this comment)

My sister has this and the same exact thing happened to her little girl. It wasn't on carpet, though, and her daughter required 3 stitches afterward. I believe my sis contacted an attorney about the matter.
Great job and I'm glad your little one wasn't hurt.

I appreciated reading your very helpful review. I printed it and hung it on the bulletin board in my church as there are so many young mothers there.
Thansk again,
My best,

Re: Tray falling off (Reply to this comment)
by marybatson
Hi Lisa:
Thank you for reading, and the comment/question?
"I'm trying to picture how your booster fell over... was it strapped to a chair or just on the floor? You mentioned sitting on the floor in front of the chair so I am thinking it was just on the floor?"
It was strapped to the chair, and my son was strapped into the seat. He pushed the tray off with his feet and the force knocked the chair over and my son flat on his face. I was sitting on the couch next to him, unfortunately not in front of him so I could not prevent the fall. He's a tall boy, as I mentioned, so I imagine most 10-month old children would not have the length, or perhaps the strength to push the tray off, but he did.
In my reply to Melinda, many here at Epinions have reported the same kind of fall, so this was not a fluke incident.
Again, thank you for your comment.
Mary :)

I'm SO glad to hear that Melinda!
I'm actually taking the time to read all of the previous reviews on the product. In some of the reviews (approx. 10) I've discovered many experienced the same problem as I; however, I also discovered that two of them took the time to call The First Years and report the fall. They claimed that The First Years sent them a new tray to replace the faulty one, no questions asked. One of the reviews said it did not make a difference as the 2nd tray was faulty as well. Thus, I probably should have reported the incident, as I might have been able to use the product as a portable highchair a bit longer.
Thank you for your comment.

I have two of these that I used for several years in my day care. I love them. I disagree with the safety hazard -- I never had any problems.
Good review from a very different perspective than mine!

Tray falling off (Reply to this comment)
by ladiazii
I do think that probably almost all portable high chairs would be a little less sturdy than their more heavy-weight, full size counterparts. On a different brand high chair, my middle child (who was not strapped in, I admit) was trying to get out when I had my back to him and managed to get enough of his weight on the tray to knock it off and he fell to the floor : ( I'm trying to picture how your booster fell over... was it strapped to a chair or just on the floor? You mentioned sitting on the floor in front of the chair so I am thinking it was just on the floor? (I'm not criticizing because it IS advertised for this, and you did point out that you should remove the straps which hook to a standard chair when using on the floor so it's not a choking hazard, good thought!) Between my house and my mothers we had a good many boosters with trays. When I took up babysitting I gathered them all up and used to have 2-3 of them at a time on my living room floor with a child sitting in them while having a popsicle and watching tv. This was to avoid the mess and to keep them seated while eating it.
For younger babies the boosters work SO much better at restaurants than what they have available there (and you know they're much cleaner!). I always used a padded insert for snugger fitting (and safer fitting) with my infants. That's an idea for those of you who travel with the babies.
Bottom line, the portable high chairs are a fantastic item, but as ALWAYS, infants must be supervised because they're completely unpredictable! Since you're likely going to sit right next to them at mealtime anyway, these are great little convenience items for any family and the cost is very low.
I love the detail in your review.... and I wanted to return the favor of you reading mine! : )

I actually just picked one of these (Reply to this comment)

up at a garage sale for the baby, of course he is to young to sit in it yet. We had a similiar type seat when my older son was little. It fell off of a chair one time, fortunately my son was not in it at the time. It made me pretty nervouse so when ever he would eat in it we would put him on the floor. Better safe than sorry. Great review as always.

If my 3 1/2 year old had ever fallen out of her chair, she'd have never gotten back in it. Of course now, she just sits in a regular chair since she is not the baby anymore, "Mom"
Excellent review!

Really good to know! (Reply to this comment)

This is great information. Since a fall to the floor is the last thing we need at the end of a long day, I think I should probably avoid this model, right? Again, great review!

Thanks for the warning! (Reply to this comment)
by jadzia66
I could have used a portable high chair with my daughter because when we go out to eat, she refuses to sit in those wooden high chairs with no trays that most restaurants seems to have. Now we just go to restaurants that have normal high chairs but she'll soon be in just a booster seat anyways. I've got a portable high chair on my list for my next child though so I appreciate the warning you gave on this one!!
