Infant Sleep Positioner---ideal for a side sleeper
Written: Apr 24 '04
Pros:Great for propping up a side sleeping infant as suggested by our doctor
Cons:Difficult to find in our area
The Bottom Line: If your doctor suggests a side sleeping position for your newborn, this is a secure positioner and easily adjustable.
Yes, the current suggestions for all newborns is "back to sleep" for prevention of SIDs But when you have a reflux baby who spits up frequently, a side position might be recommended by your doctor. This has been our case for our youngest two children, both spit up frequently and needed to be put to sleep on their sides not back. We used to use rolled up receiving blankets, but this product has made our life much easier. It has survived 2 newborns and still in good condition.
The First Years Airflow Adjustable Sleep Positioner has been a welcome addition to our newborn's cradle. It has a hollow frame circular tube at both sides with an open weave mesh fabric for circulation. The width between the tubes are adjustable with 2 velcro strips in the middle---fit to your baby's size easily and securely. The Sleep Positioner is machine washable(cold water and gentle cycle). Simply adjust the velcro to fit your baby and lay the baby down to sleep. It can be used for side or back sleeping, but we found the baby tended to move to her back if not using a sleep positioner. The fabric is white with pastel colored stars and moons pictured on it (suitable for either a boy or girl).
The sleep positioner is kind of weird to look at and describe---basically 2 soft tubes placed on both sides of the baby with a velcro fabric strip connecting them together. Satisfaction is guaranteed with this product. The First Years can be contacted at 1-800-533-6708 or www.thefirstyears.com The box contains some tips and suggestions. As quoted: "1. When deciding how best to position your infant for sleep, it's a good idea to consult your child's pediatrician or other healthcare provider. 2. The Airflow Adjustable Sleep Positioner can help keep your child comfortably positioned on her back or side. Be sure to adjust for a snug comfortable fit as your child grows. 3. Discontinue use of the Sleep Positioner once your baby is able to roll over. Important: Be sure to place Positioner at your infant's hips, well below the armpits."
My Mom purchased this Sleep Positioner at our local WalMart and I forgot to ask how much she paid. It has been a great product and I trust that my baby will be safe. She is propped up securely on her side allowing for safe sleeping and no choking when she spits up. Again, the doctor has suggested a side sleeping position for my child. Check with your doctor before changing your infants sleep position.
