Take & Toss Bowls: Colorful, Cheap and Convenient

Written: Jan 20 '07
Pros:Colorful, cheap
Cons:These bowls are nothing special - there are lots of similar products on the market.
The Bottom Line: Inexpensive, disposible bowls that are great for storing small amounts of food in diaper bags or lunch boxes.

I generally like products in the First Years Take & Toss line. They are usually very cheap - so much so that the company advertises that these products at disposable. I have bought these cups a few times over the last few years and still have many of them sitting in a drawer and going off in school lunch bags.

THE PRODUCT

This product is very simple. Depending on the package size, you get a number of bowls and a corresponding number of lids. The packaging has varied over time but the product has remained the same. The bowls and lids are made of the same thin, translucent plastic. The bowls and lids all come in bright colors. The bowls hold 8 ounces which is a good size for a snack for small children.

I generally try to keep the bowls as long as I can and don't treat them as disposable. The bowls and lids have generally lasted well over two years. I wash them in the upper rack of the dishwasher and have never had a problem with washing them that way. Some of my bowls and lids are over two years old and still going strong.

I find lots of uses for the bowls. I use them to store snacks in the diaper bag. I also use them frequently in my kid's lunch boxes. I usually don't use them for liquids. My main use is mostly dry, light snacks such as cereal and crackers. However, the few times I have used them for liquids, they didn't leak. I like these bowls for lunch boxes because the kids find these bowls easy to open. Plus, if the kids accidentally throw them away, it isn't a big deal since they are so cheap. Another plus is that the bowls are more colorful than other brands which makes them a little nicer in the lunch box.

The only reason I can't rave about this product is that they are so many similar products on the market. Glad makes a similar line of disposable bowls as do other manufacturers. However, none of those lines, to my knowledge, come in the same colorful array. If you are looking for small bowls with lids, this is a nice brand at a reasonable price. However, I do think there are lots of similar items out there.

FINAL RECOMMENDATION

I like these bowls. They are colorful and cheap and we find lots of uses for them. There are similar products on the market but I have found good uses for these and they have withstood the test of time.
