Re: Remember the TV Series... (Reply to this comment)

It was "Project UFO," from the Jack Webb team, and I remember it well. There's a history of the short-lived show at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077065/

And Why Not!?! (Reply to this comment)
by AinsleyJo
The universe is vast, and even the entire population of our planet (including those who have passed on and those still on this side) probably wouldn't fill up all of the space in our entire solar system!
I'm not sure if there's intelligent life on any of the planets in our solar system--except, possibly, earth--but I certainly believe that there's lots of intelligent life in other parts of the universe!
I've bookmarked this piece so I can use it for research!

I loved this... (Reply to this comment)

Then entire subject absolutely fascinates me, and I get furious that I've never seen one. A fleet of them (supposedly) flew over Phoenix a few years back and I was watching TV. Couldn't believe I'd miss out.
I loved the idea of the TREATS AT THE END. ha ha.
Thanks, for an hour of good reading. lol

Re: I Did Read the Book (Reply to this comment)

Virginia,
You're a doll --- your comment on your brother made me laugh at 3 a.m. in the morning!!!
I ALWAYS appreciate your comments. I do find the subject fascinating, though I've never finalized an opinion on it. Some amazing people are among the believers --- for instance, Dr. Herman Oberth, the father of German rocket science who trained many of the German scientists that helped put Apollo 11 on the moon, told "American Weekly" magazine in 1954, "Flying saucers come from distant worlds." Another for instance from the 1976 presidential campaign: Democratic presidential candidate Jimmy Carter said, "I am convinced that UFOs exist because I have seen one." Interesting...

and I think I am a believer. My brother, who was a logic minded lawyer, claimed he saw one. And, no, he hadn't had too much to drink.

The Wise and the Winkers. (Reply to this comment)
by macresarf1
Dear Don: While taking most accounts with a grain of sea salt, I think that among the thousands of reported sightings, there must be a few which are valid. Most of them, however, are optical illusions, misinterpretations, or hoaxes.
You must remember that, at least in the experience of the people who made the initial reports, jet aircraft were still in the realm of magic. Also, there is a distinct possibility that the Air Force may have had some experimental jets, either taken from the Nazis or just under development, which got the Intelligence people into a situation on which they could not comment at the time. And later, the whole thing became part of pop culture.
And the fact that Major Keyhoe worked with Colonel Lindberg is not much of a plus for either the theory or the Major, for Lindberg had plenty of crackpot ideas of his own.
Nice review but perhaps not critical enough.

Re: Great review! (Reply to this comment)
by Don_Krider
Hi Bonnie,
My middle initial is "W", which mom told me was for "William" but I think may be for "Wordy"!
That's pretty neat about seeing a UFO tracked on radar (it was probably piloted by an Ebay buyer seeking an original copy of Keyhoe's book...).

Great review! (Reply to this comment)
by bonnieleigh
Hey, I used to have that old paperback! Around $100 on internet auctions, you say? If I could just find it....
I think one of the most interesting facts you passed along in this review was the composition of the board of NICAP. CIA director, eh?
And, boy, someone as wordy as I am - or even more so! Aha!
Happy New Year!
Bonnie (who has seen two rather boring UFOs, one of which was tracked on radar in DC after our report)

Wow.
How long was it . . .? 3200-plus words.
But well-crafted words that kept this reader engaged. I might have finalized the 'review' portion of it a little more strongly than you did. Perhaps actually saying 'this is the end of the review. If you want to read about a few incidents discussed in the book please continue. And free treats at the end for those that find the end!'
Or something like that. ...:smiliemoment:...
Very nicely done.
