I've never been overly worried about the decor of my house. As long as nothing clashed and there was something on the walls to make it look homey I was happy. I am no longer that person thanks to the The Guggenheim Museum.

Creating an Art Lover
When we arrived at The Guggenheim Museum I was not overly impressed. The outside is covered with tarps and scaffolding as construction was going on. We played hopscotch underneath the scaffolding, trying to avoid the constant drips of water after a rain. After making it through the entrance my opinion changed drastically.
There weren't any lines to stand in, compared to various other attractions we had been to, and we were waited on promptly by a pleasant young man. After showing our New York Pass, we were given our tickets and were on our way. The whole process took approximately two minutes.
The Guggenheim Museum captures you as soon you enter. The first display I saw was a huge, eye catching, waterfall of glass featured in the Shapes of Space exhibition. Various other pieces of art are placed through out the first floor. A curved ramp hallway leads to the second floor. A flashing multi-colored floor area was at mid-point. I'm not sure what that was about, as a dozen or so school children and their chaperones were discussing perception and opinions of what they saw. It was an intelligent discussion with the children actively participating. I was impressed and left them to their talk.
The second floor's sterile white walls were splashed with the colors of an amazing amount of paintings. This is what I was looking for. I...the woman who had never been interested in art...suddenly wanted, no needed to see the original works of the artists I had learned about growing up. Van Gogh, Monet, Picasso, and more adorned the walls.
I learned that many of Pablo Picasso's works are even more strange and disturbing than I had thought. While they held my attention, they also made me want to move on. I can now say that I have seen his work and find them lacking in greatness, but interesting. On the other hand, I found a fondness for Monet's paintings. I have ordered two reprints already and plan on adding more to the walls of my home soon.
Many other great paintings and displays are available for the visitor to see and judge for themselves. The works of Picasso and Monet are what made the biggest impression on me, though. The Guggenheim Museum in it's entirety is an amazing place that allows the average person to view works of art that they otherwise would never have the chance to see. The staff were helpful and unobtrusive. They had the knowledge to answer questions that this former non-art lover asked. One female employee had the enthusiasm and patience to keep answering questions about color use, textures, and the artists as she wandered around the second floor with me.
I plan on going back to New York City in the future. The Guggenheim Museum is one of very few places that I will visit again. Not only did I find a love for Monet's works, I found a feeling of awe and inspiration that I have found no where else.
