hey there Heather... (Reply to this comment)

..
Just finished reading one of those silly 'express reviews' of this one. Not at all sure what the heck the writer was talking about. So I thought I would look at another review to refresh my knowledge of this book.
Not sure this book is able to be easily capsulized. At least from your review I am not sure.
Very nicely done, especially for an older review here on the site.

Just Bought the 5th book of the series! (Reply to this comment)
by boozybaz
I was walking round a book shop the other day, and noticed the 5th Dark Tower Book (Wolves of the Calla). I bought it as I remember enjoying the other installments many years ago.
I'm now however going to have to re-read the other four, as I've mostly forgotten the previous stories.
If I remember rightly, the 3rd book is the best so far.
If no-one has read any Dark Tower novels, I'd highly recommend that they do.

A lot of the old classics have been drawn upon time and time again. :) I think it's always neat to see.

Oh boy. Just my luck to get into another series that doesn't have an end. That always drives me a little nuts!

Ahh, yes. I'd heard about the poem. I think I'll leave off reading it until afterwards. I don't mind spoilers all that much, but I like this sense of mystery. :)

I bought this several months ago... (Reply to this comment)

...based on a short I read in an SF/F anthology (Legends, I think?) that intrigued me no end. That short left me feeling much the way your review describes.
Dead on review, and an unusual (in a good way) book for King. I'm looking forward to the read even more now. :)

It took me a while (Reply to this comment)

to get into The Gunslinger, although, after the second book in the series came out, I went back and re-read the first one. I love the series and wish King would hurry up with another.
Good job!

There is an old Robert Browning poem ... (Reply to this comment)
by AdaDavis
called Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came. This is where King got the title and the outline of this book. Roland is a knight on a quest to find the Dark Tower. He travels, alone and friendless through a harsh landscape, and finally finds the Dark Tower, and discovers that it really is ... (If you want to know, find the poem. Or don't - because it may give you the answer to what Roland is really seeking, and you may want to finish the King trilogy first.)
