Looking for a great place in town to go for a quiet Sunday brunch? Check out The Hampshire House, located across from the Public Garden, directly upstairs from Cheers, err, the Bull and Finch Pub.
Start off with a mimosa and some of their delicious appetizers, from smoked salmon, grilled Portobello mushrooms, fresh fruit, or chowder. You can also get a good Bloody Mary.
Entries vary from your standard breakfast fare of eggs anyway, Belgian waffles, or cinnamon French toast to the more lunch-oriented options of pasta, chicken, salmon, or lobster. Have never been disappointed with anything off the menu, except maybe the one time with an early seating when the sticky buns weren’t ready yet. They are more than willing to substitute, as I’ve taken a liking to their roasted garlic potatoes.
Don’t forget to leave room for their desserts.
With some live Jazz music to accompany the meal, the library setting is very quaint and cozy. Great place to impress a date. Be sure to call ahead for reservations. They do have a dress code so don’t dress too casually. If unsure, ask while making reservations. Only take children if well behaved. A word of caution, they shutdown their Sunday brunch service over the summer months though.
Don’t want to worry about parking? They offer valet service. Want to wonder around the city before / after brunch? They’ll validate your parking ticket for the parking garage under the Boston Common.
Be sure to go in the main door, to the right of the Cheers entrance. Don’t bother with that line, the crowded environment inside, or the lesser quality food.
