Unfortunetly, I haven't had the pleasure of eating at the Honey Baked Ham resturant but I have had a taste of their variety of hams and turkeys.My father received a $50.00 gift certificate from his employer and immediately handed it over to me, thinking it wasn't worth his time or effort to search for a store nearby.I searched the internet looking for a store nearby and found one in Austin, Texas. There are some pros and cons I would like to mention for anyone that has to have the item they select shipped to them.

Cons The shipping is very expensive for some areas. The fact that The Honey Baked Ham Company has to get the order you select to you frozen and in good condition plays a strong role on this. The catalog mentions the following about certain states ***The following states REQUIRE expedited delivery: AK,AZ,CA,CO,FL,HI,ID,LA,MT,ND,NM,NV,OR,TX,UT,WA, and WY. This can cause a big increase in the shipping price I have noticed.(Not real good when the items are priced high!) Ex. A 6lb ham would run exactly $51.95 which includes standard shipping. For the states listed above the same 6lb ham would cost $59.95 which includes expedited shipping! I think that if you could find a store located near you it would definitely be worth the 30 mile travel to save on any shipping.

I have also visited the Honey Baked Ham Companys website and was not real pleased with the situation at checkout time. I have a gift certificate for $50.00 and my order was about $133.00. I am prepared to bust out my credit card and pay the remaining balance. I see no statements about gift certificates so I return to the homepage and go directly to gift certificate information. I am reading along and to my surprise they state that you must pay the total amount with a credit card and then send the gift certificate via mail and they will not charge your credit card. That doesn't suite my taste so I start browsing the catalog and find an order form. Another words if you are in this situation, you might as well just send in the mail order form along with the gift certificate!

Prices and Products I am not going to lie, this place is expensive but remember, I have a $50.00 gift certificate I have to use!
The Honey Baked Ham Company offers half hams which range in price considering the lbs. A 6lb ham (which I mentioned earlier) which will serve up to 15 people is priced at $51.95 standard delivery included in that price. A 10lb ham which serves about 27 people is $71.95 standard shipping. A 12 lb whole ham for 33 people is $81.95 standard shipping.And a 16lb whole ham serves 45 people, priced at $101.95. That is just an idea of what the prices range. They have several varieties to chose from. They also have a whole smoked or roasted turkey (your choice) for $48.95 which includes standard shipping.The turkey can be stuffed (but it will cost you) or you can have some gravy added with it. Lots of siding varieties to chose from. Some more to choose from would be stuffed cornish game hens,gourmet steaks,prime rib roast,smoked sokeye salmon,bacon,soups, cheese,honey mustards,and breads.

Pros After discussing it with my husband, we decided to take a ride to Austin and save on the shipping prices. The store was very nice and clean and smelled wonderful. Everything that was in the catalog and the website was there. I bought a little of everything but that is o.k. because I saved on shipping, right? They gladly accepted the gift certificate and I paid the remaining balance. The turkey was wrapped very nicely as was the rest of my purchases, I was very pleased.

How did it taste? The stuffed turkey was wonderful. We had purchased it browned and roasted and it was the best tasting turkey I had ever tasted. The Breads were fresh and the cheese was rich tasting. The stuffing was so good that my husband had to return to the store and purchase more. And I must tell you that I bought one of their pies even though the price was not to my husbands liking. Chocolate fudge cake and it was simply delicious. The price was $29.99, yes, I know that is expensive but well worth the treat we all deserve!

The gift certificates make wonderful gifts and I would recommend you buy $50.00 gift certificates to make it well worth anyones time and effort.
