Pros: Nick Nolte
Cons: The Hulk, very slow.
The Bottom Line: Starts slow and ends disappointing. Real good acting performance from Nick Nolte. The Hulk looks extremely bad at times. I can not recommend paying to see this.

| stockholder's Full Review: The Hulk |
The idiot son-in-law of mine that also happens to be a thief and a degenerate scumbag brought home a bootleg DVD copy of The Hulk on Friday. After berating, belittling and calling him the scum of the earth several times for bringing home a second rate theft copy of the movie, I decided to watch it. After all, I have been dying to see this flick since its release. Plus how often are you able to watch a movie in the luxury of your own home that is still playing in the theaters?
I popped my usual two bags of microwave popcorn and my grandson and I sat down and slid in the DVD. We both were extremely excited. Due to my daughters busy schedule and my sleeping schedule we have had little opportunities lately to make it to the movies.
The picture quality was good on this swindled DVD, the sound was horrible but I feel I can still represent to you, the reader a decent portrayal of most of the content of this waste of time movie.
The flick starts off way too slow, especially slow for the viewers that are big fans of the original Hulk TV Series. If you remember Lou Ferrignos version of the big green good-guy dummy, you will remember how scientist Bruce Banner turns into the Hulk at least 3-times every episode. In the movie The Hulk, get prepared to be overwhelmed with acting performances by Dr. Bruce Banner's (Eric Bana) and his evil, evil father played superbly by Nick Nolte before you even get a glimpse of The Hulk. In fact after looking down at the time display on the DVD, 43-minutes passed and we were still receiving outstanding acting performances, but no Hulk.
When you finally get to see The Hulk, He is not very impressive at all. It is painfully clear that this Hulk is a computer-generated version. This version is literally twice the size of the original and 1000-times as powerful. The computer-generated Hulk can run through buildings, take hundreds of bullets and jump so high and far that it could travel miles in seconds. You cant help but feeling like you are watching a cartoon.
With all of these differences from the original series, by far the biggest difference and the worst thing about this movie is the fact that The Hulk does absolutely no crime fighting and does not save one life through out the whole movie. The whole second half of this 138 minute movie is the Hulk running for his life and being chased and shot at by the military. Unlike Spider-Man, The Hulk gives you nothing to root for, no edge of your seat battles against bad guys. In fact The Hulk never attempts to accomplish anything in this movie but to run away from the bullets. It is almost like this is the prequel to the next movie, maybe in The Hulk II he will actually use his extreme strength for something positive.
The Plot:
Nick Nolte plays the evil scientist father of Bruce Banner. Noltes character uses little Bruce from the day he is born as a genetic experiment to create a super human being (The Hulk). Although he is a good guy, Bruce grows to also be a scientist and by fate starts right where his evil father left off. There is an accident during one of Bruces experiments and Bruce Banner turns into a big green fighting machine every time he is angered or physically hurt. I have been told that this movie stays true to the original comic book. The movie defiantly makes no attempts at recreating the series. In fact the camera work attempts to give you a comic book feel with its double and triple screen scenes.
The bottom line:
If you are looking for Jack Nicholson You cant handle the truth type acting performances, you will enjoy this movie. Nick Nolte does plenty of growling raspy voiced acting. The Hulk has a slightly better plot than most of the Superhero action movies. But this is a long movie that starts off slow and ends up disappointing. There are very view action sequences that are all that special. And this movie as a whole is not very memorable. My seven year old grandson was extremely bored and confused with this movie. After sitting through the first 45-minutes of the movie, he actually asked me if this was the real movie. He thought we were watching the making of by mistake.
I give The Hulk 2-stars out of 5.
