An Excellent Historical Adventure

Pros:Awesome Action, Vivid detail, Epic Story, Christian Worldview.
Cons:Weird Frame Story, Extreme Gore.
Lawhead's "The Iron Lance: The Celtic Crusades" Is One of the most enthralling novels I've read in quite some time. It's the story of the crusades as experienced by a Celtic youth. Lawhead is an incredibly vivid storyteller. The siege of Jerusalem is quite possibly the most mind numbingly violent passage I've ever read in a novel. This book is not for the squeamish. In a sense the story is a continuation of Lawhead's earlier novel "Byzantium" but it shares none of the same characters. The settings, themes and political situations are similar. My one complaint is the bizarre frame story Lawhead uses to tell the story. It's weird and doesn't seem to have much to do with the novel itself. This book is a long read, but if you are a fan of historical adventures on an epic scale then it is definately worth your time. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series "The Black Rood" maybe then the frame story will make more sense.
