| BuddhaBabee's Full Review: The Jekyll and Hyde Club |
Seeing as I live in New Jersey, I had heard so much hype about Jekyll and Hyde's. So, one night a bunch of us decided to check out the place. First of all, we had to wait on line for nearly an hour (they are not known for speed). Then once we were escorted in, you get crammed into this tiny "hallway", where a host/hostess talk to a computer animated skeleton. This experience is supposed to be interactive. While talking to the skeleton, the ceiling gives the appearance of "falling" on you. Not really all that freaky.
Once you get inside, you give your name at the hostess stand, where they escort you to one of the numerous floors. We ended up on the third floor. It wasn't all bad, except for the fact that it was so packed with people, that I could barely breathe. You had to push people away just to get to the bar. Then the computer is located at the end of the bar, so if you stand near it, you are always in some poor waiter/waitresses way. Finally some poor schmuck has to fight through the crowd where they loudly announce your name and that your table is ready.
Once seated, they give you a mediocre menu, which is filled with interesting entrees. I happened to pick a burger. I asked for American cheese, I got brie. Not exactly appealing to me. Plus, I am the kind of person who prefers my meat rare or even medium. This was like a hockey puck. The only good thing about the menu, is that they have some really yummy mixed drinks.
Overall, I wasn't all that thrilled with it. We couldn't see the show that was being put on, we didn't see any moving statues, and we couldn't even smoke at our table (you must sit at the bar to smoke..yeah sure..good luck finding a seat!!) The only true positive point of the night was the fact that we met Yancy Butler (she played the parachute instructor with Wesley Snipes in the movie DROP ZONE) She was really nice. Other than that though, save your money. You'll thank yourself for it in the end.
