Majora's Mask: The Gift That Keeps On Giving
Written: Nov 10, 2000 (Updated Nov 10, 2000)
Rated a Somewhat Helpful Review by the Epinions community
Pros:Stellar Graphics, Intriguing Characters, Puzzles Coupled With Interaction, And the Satisfaction of Seeing The Effects of Your Efforts
Cons:Having To Suspend Normal Life Activity Once You Begin the Quest
It has been a week since I defeated Majora's Mask. I needed the time off; I needed to calm my nerves. For five days straight -- and I mean straight -- I slaved over this odyssey of a game without the benefit of a handy guide or some other unmentionable instruction. I was determined to conquer this ENORMOUS obstacle through wit, math, and sheer patience. Five days, ladies and gentlemen. Let me take you back...
It was roughly two years and five days ago that I first flipped "Ocarina of Time" on. As soon as I tooled naive Link around his village in the very first scene in Hyrule, I knew I was in for a long one, but I truly didn't know how draining this was going to be on my psyche (I had no idea how fast I would lose the art of human communication, I was that glued to the game). After five turbulent days, I finally had defeated "Ocarina"; after a jubilant cry of boundless triumph, I rushed downstairs to eat, drink, defecate, and sleep.
Adventure junkie, take note: the journey that awaits you in "Majora's Mask" is nothing short of its predecessor.
The saga that ensues is thoroughly engaging, in a word. The arrangement of the game is very craftily thought out. The challenges that await you, adventurer, are all well worth your undertaking.
Yes, there are some gripes I've had with the game. Namely, the side tasks can, at times, seem overwhelming, but the beauty of them is that not all of them are necessary to complete: it's a matter of discerning which ones are worthwhile and adventageous for yourself. The whole 72-hour component is anything but a limitation. If anything, it allows you to think ahead, plan accordingly, and execute strategies all to your advantage.
The experience, overall, is a mind-blower.
GAMER, TAKE NOTE: "MAJORA'S MASK" IS AND WILL BE AN UNPARALLELED ADVENTURE IN A SPACE-TIME THAT WILL SWALLOW YOUR WORLD AS YOU KNOW IT.
