The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a challenging game, and that's when you need a helpful strategy guide. I purchased this when I got the game because I was sure I'd need it, and I was right. In the beginning of the guide there are brief descriptions of the main characters and a picture for each of them. After that, there is a section titled Game Basics. This gives you some tips, like you should talk to everyone you meet and equip new weapons when you get them. It talks about some of the special items you receive in dungeons and so on. The next section is called Weapons, Armor & Items. That is very helpful, and there is a list of every item in the game and a brief description of what they are used for. There is a list of all the songs you are able to play on your Ocarina and it tells you where you learn them and who teaches them to you.
The next part is the real walkthrough, which is very detailed, with pictures, maps, and tips on the side. This is extremely helpful when you're playing through the game. There are lengthy descriptions to help you get through each dungeon/maze and a special box with a strategy for beating the bosses. There is a picture for each boss (though for Queen Gohma, the first boss you fight, they have a picture of Bongo Bongo, who you don't fight til much later).
After the walkthrough, there is a section called The Bestiary, which is a guide of all the enemies in the game, including bosses. There are pictures and each enemy gets a rating by shields - 1 shield for an easy enemy and 5 shields for a very difficult enemy. It tells you what attacks you should use to defeat each enemy and warns you if they have a certain attack you should watch out for.
Next we have a Mini-Games guide, which is very cool. It explains in detail how to complete the mini-games/quests throughout the entire game, such as the Happy Mask Shop storyline and how to obtain the Biggoron's Sword, the most powerful sword in the game.
The last chapter in the book is the Secrets section. Every heart piece's location is revealed, and whether Link can get it as an adult or a child. There is a guide to getting all the Skulltulas too. Their location, equipment needed to obtain it (i.e. hookshot, bug in a bottle), and if you need to be a child or an adult are all included in a 3-page long section. There is some info about the mysterious Gossip Stones, how to use the Scarecrow's Song, where to plant the Magic Beans when you're young, and the secret grottos throughout the world. And on the very last page, there is a very nice map of Hyrule, which you can refer to if you're lost (I used to get lost all the time when I first started playing).
This is not the official Nintendo Power Strategy Guide, but it is still incredibly helpful and I strongly recommend you pick it up.
