| Goodwood's Full Review: Rick Reilly - The Life of Reilly: The Best of Spor... |
Rick Reilly, one of the quintessencial sportswriters of our time, releases a compilation of his very best work. It is just that -- one of the very best sports column compilations in recent memory.
Reilly has a true gift, to make you weep one week, make you wince the next, and make you hurt from laughter the very next. All of this while teaching us about life's little lessons.
There's about 70 columns in this book, some you've certainly read before, but long to read again. I broke down and cried upon reading four of these, laughed uncontrollably upon reading 15 more, and was simply amazed at his writing touch on all 70.
He foreshadows perfectly, he places quotes perfectly, and he has the knack of putting a punch to the end of each story, an ending that makes an OK column good, a good column great and a great column a classic.
For all of those who love sports, and for all those who love life, this is a must-read. It will have you craving for more.
