| aaronrubin's Full Review: Nelson Demille - The Lion's Game |
Nelson DeMille has long been one of my favorite authors, with fabulous books like The Charm School, The Rivers of Babylon, and The Gold Coast. His last book, Plum Island, left me a bit disappointed. However, that was apparently a fluke, because The Lion's Game is just as captivating as his earlier books.
The characters are very fun. There's the politically incorrect, but very likeable John Corey (hero of Plum Island), ex-NYPD officer turned anti-terrorist special agent. Corey is an interesting character, not as suave as your usual hero, and fills the book with jokes and off-color remarks. Opposing Corey is the very ticked off Libyan terrorist Asad Khalil. Khalil is not your stereotypical dumb terrorist, but a very clever and very evil dude who does a good job of eluding Mr. Corey. DeMille goes into great detail about Khalil's background, giving him far more depth than the "bad guy" usually has. There are many other interesting and diverse characters, from Corey's partners to Khalil's accomplices and victims.
All in all, The Lion's Game is a great read. The action starts almost from the first page and never lets up. I promise that once you pick it up, you'll have a hard time putting it down.
