| cgskywalker's Full Review: Nelson Demille - The Lion's Game |
This book takes off from the first page and doesn't stop racing until you finish. I got this book from the library on Saturday afternoon and finished it on Monday night. I literally couldn't put it down.
Mr. DeMille is a great storyteller - his other books are also worth the time to read. This particular story is so believable, you have to turn the page to see what's going to happen next. At times, I knew what was going to happen next, but the anticipation of how Mr. DeMille would let his characters figure it out made it a lot of fun.
If you are a politically correct person, you may find yourself offended by the main character's and the villain's outlook on life. Maybe they are just more honest than most of us.
The theme of this book, especially the undercurrents of the espionage, stick with you after you finish the book. Days later, I'm still wondering if maybe the CIA did this or that and whether this character is still looking over his shoulder or what happened to this other guy. Mr. DeMille doesn't find it necessary to tie up every loose end - just like real life. He gives you plenty to ponder and enjoy for weeks to come.
The first book I read by Mr. DeMille was Word of Honor. It's military theme was something I enjoyed and the entire basis of the story was so far out yet so very plausible, I looked forward to every twist and turn. I think the plot was much less predictable than in The Lion's Game, which made it stimulating to read.
If you like cop novels or spy novels, The Lion's Game is definitely a book you should read.
