This ride, while similar to Fantasyland rides, is located next to Splash Mountain in Critter Country. We visited Disneyland on a slow day in January 2005 and there was never more than a 15 minute wait for this ride. This was great because my five year old dragged me on it multiple times while we waited for his sister to take one turn on Splash Mountain which had a 45 minute wait.
THE WAIT
The lines for this ride are much more interesting and pleasant than other Disneyland rides. The pathways are wide so you can stand and talk with others in your group. There is some nice landscaping and even some props. The lines are outside but there is some shade and you can even find a few places to sit (although you are discouraged from sitting on the landscaped areas). As you get to the front of the line, you can see the ride cars loading and unloading.
THE RIDE
The ride takes place in a yellow car that seats four, two in the front and two in the back. The car looks like a giant yellow swirl which I assume is supposed to be honey. A lap bar keeps you in place. There are no height restrictions.
The boarding area is outside but the rest of the ride takes place inside. The best part of this ride is that all the favorite Disney characters are represented including pooh, tigger, piglet, kanga, roo and eyore. This is very satisfying for young visitors who like to see the friendly, familiar characters. The ride car also gently rocks around as you go through the ride. The motion is similar to floating. There are no sudden turns and the car goes pretty slow.
The ride doesn't really have a plot line. The first room has a windy scene and you can feel a wind blowing. We visited on a cold, rainy day and the wind was very warm but I suspect they were blowing and heating the ride at the same time. There is also a rain scene with some very cool rain effects. Both of these scenes had lots of 3D characters and were completely filled out and visually interesting with lots of detail and special effects.
In the middle of the ride, you enter Pooh's dream. This section consists mainly of painted walls in garish colors. There are some mirrors and a couple minor effects but there isn't too much of interest here. I thought the bright, garish colors and amateurish art really detracted from the ride but the kids didn't seem to mind. The ride concludes with some better, filled out 3D scenes.
Overall, the ride lasts about 2 minutes which seems about average for fantastyland rides and other rides of this type. My five year old really liked the ride and wanted to go several times. My eight year old found the ride boring but she is becoming more interested in the thrill rides.
I thought this was the best of the rides for the preschool set in Disneyland. It is clear that this ride is newer than the rest of the rides for this age group and Disney clearly put some money and thought into the scenes and effects. The location is also nice if you have kids of different ages. Older kids can go on Splash Mountain just across the "street." Younger ones can go on this ride while they wait.
RECOMMENDATION
I really liked this ride and thought it was the best of the rides for the younger kids. The scenes are great and the waiting area isn't congested like the ones in Fantasyland.
