Pros: Keanu, Carrie-Anne, Jada, some great moments
Cons: some prolonged scenes, some stuff that wasn't needed
The Bottom Line: Not as good as I wanted it to be; not as good as it could have been; not a terrible movie, just average.

| bops_mom's Full Review: The Matrix: Revolutions |
Had I reviewed the first two Matrix movies on Epinions, I would have given them 5, yes, 5 stars. I loved them both. So it is really no surprise that Id want to see the third and supposed final installment The Matrix: Revolutions opening day. I had hoped thered be sneak peek showing at 12 a.m. opening day, but alas there wasnt. I settled for going to an afternoon showing and uh, Im glad I only paid matinee prices. Yes, thats me - The Matrix lover saying that.
Huh? What? Who? and all that rot
The Matrix: Revolutions takes off right where the second movie left us. Neo is out of it, his body is there, but he is not. They cant find him in the Matrix and the machines are drilling to make it into Zion and things just look bad. Really, really bad. The end is near and everyone knows it.
The big questions everyone has are: what happens? Well, if you watch The Matrix: Revolutions youll find out. Honestly, Im not going to go into even a brief synopsis of what happens because if youve seen the first two movies, you already know what is expected to happen in Revolutions and Im not going to completely give away what does happen. And for those who have not seen the first two Matrix movies see them before this one. I honestly dont feel this movie can stand alone and if you do only see this one, theres no way youd even care to view the first two.
In The Matrix: Revolutions weve got nearly all the same pack of actors as in the previous two [Laurence Fishburne, Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving, etc.]. There are a few new faces, a few new characters - which honestly could have been left the heck out entirely - and even a new face to an old character. I must have been under a rock as my husband of all people had to tell me a few weeks ago that the actress, Gloria Foster, had passed away back in 2001. I had no idea and had issue with how they were going to deal with this. There was no need to even give it another thought however as actress Mary Alice steps up to take her place and does an amazing job of it, too. We arent left wondering why all of a sudden The Oracle is someone else as its worked into the story. Good job peeps!
Some thoughts and disappointment
Ok, maybe Im a sucker, but I really wanted and even expected a good ending. Or should I say, a predictable ending. Movies for me dont have to be happy ever after, but sheesh! Gimme some of that! The Matrix: Resolutions was a huge disappointment to me in that aspect. The movie ended, but I really didnt feel that the war was over (though it supposedly was) and well, people died who I hadnt really thought would or maybe I thought if they were going to die, they would have been killed off differently.
So, does it really end? Uh
. Yes and no. They left a window open which I really didnt get, but this is also supposedly the last installment. Then again who am I to say, I was less than thrilled with the story and editing of this one.
Oh yes, which brings us to the editing. Or was it the story. Id need to see the original script to say for certain which the main offender was, but oh man. Several scenes went on way too long. Someone should have had the sense to see that and cut them off sooner. I dont want to sit and watch someone die in real time. Make it quick already. Say your last words, act like youre in pain and get it over with. Insensitive? Sure it is. But this is a movie after all - not real life. And dont even get me started on a certain escape that seemed to last at least half the movie. During the great get away I just kept thinking, yeah, ok, we get it. We know whats going on here; now take us back to what else is going on already! There is such a thing as too many details. There is such a thing as showing the viewing audience too much. The Matrix: Revolutions does that it also does the exact opposite.
There were some new characters and the like in The Matrix: Revolutions and while I can see why they were in the movie, in the end, they really werent needed. And since they were left in the final cut, there really needed to be more about them. It wasnt just these new characters, either. When the movie ended were left with more than a couple questions. I dont like that about a movie, but can deal if I know theres going to be a sequel. Since in this care there isnt going to be. No thanks people. Ill pass.
All of that said, The Matrix: Revolutions was not a terrible movie; I just know it could have been so much better. I was disappointed because there really wasnt anything new, cool and exciting. The first movie had the element of surprise. We had no idea what was going on and how things worked at first. The second movie they put in a lot of really cool fight scenes and what have you. This third one felt like they were just trying to end it already and yeah, I wanted more than that. Yes, it was cool when Neo and Mr. Smith were fighting at the end, but again. I want a little more than something at the very end.
Final thoughts and Recommendation
I am glad I saw The Matrix: Revolutions and Im glad I saw it opening day in the theater. Since this is all were going to get for the ending, Im still glad I saw it. The actors did a great job as usual. There were some touching moments; there was some excitement and anticipation. And even if parts did seem odd, things did seem to be over done, last too long and some stuff did seem pretty pointless; I enjoyed watching it. It doesnt look like a crappy movie. It isnt. It just has more flaws than I wanted it to have.
If youve seen the first two Matrix movies and are just dying to see this one; by all means, get yourself to the local theater and watch. Its quite possible youll find fewer flaws than I did and it is a must see for fans of the first two movies. If you havent seen the first two, my recommendation is to watch them before you even think about checking this out. If you saw the first two, liked them ok but thought they were nothing special - save your money and wait for this one on DVD.
