| chaeno's Full Review: The North Face Kazoo |
I basically bought a Blue Kazoo because I was looking for a durable, light down bag that wouldn't put me much further into debt. I found it on closeout for $100, and I count that among the best $100 I ever spent. The model that I have (~1998) is rated to 20-35 degrees, and I have tested it below freezing without a problem. It weighs about 2 1/2 pounds and packs surprisingly small. The durability so far is excellent, and I hope to get many more good years of use out of it. The hood is well-designed and the draft collar, though small, adequately keeps the breeze off the shoulders. As with other TNF bags I've used, the zipper does tend to snag. This company apparently does not believe in anti-snag backing. Another feature that I am not crazy about is the continuous baffle construction. In theory, this allows you to shift the insulation from the top of the bag to the bottom, depending on conditions. It turns out that the aforementioned shifting is easier said than done, though maybe I just have not mastered the technique. Overall this is definitely my favorite sleeping bag.
