Pros:very compact and lightweight, good quality
Cons:down tends to shift and can leave cold spots
The Bottom Line: I am very glad to have this as a second bag now, although there are probably better options available for general 3 season backpacking.
I purchased this bag in 1988 as my first "real" bag for backpacking. At the time my goal was a down bag at an affordable price. It has been a good bag and serves well for a spring and fall backpacking bag. I used it as a winter bag in the NC mountains for several years, but it was a little chilly when it get in the "teens" or low 20's. It is very comfortable in the 25-45F region. Probably the best thing about this bag is how small it can be stuffed. It is almost small enough to carry as a safety blanket on climbing trips. In fact, I have often used it as a liner for my winter bag for mountaineering trips.
It has been very durable. I have used it heavily for 13 years and it has been laundered at home many times (plan plenty of time for the down to dry!).
Negatives: The zipper gets caught alot when zipping up the bag, not stuck, just caught. The bag was designed so that you can shift the down from the top to the bottom according to the weather. This may have been a "good idea", but the result is often cold spots in cooler weather.
