| disartain's Full Review: The Ove Glove Hot Surface Handler |
When the Gadget man, {husband} brought two boxes home, I thought, here we go again.
The Gadget man has brought many gadgets home. Some of the gadgets work; others are a garbage collectors dream.
I wanted to try this set of gloves and see if they worked.
Pros
The Ove Glove will fit either the right or left hand is sold as one glove.
It will withstand temperatures up to 540 degrees.
The materials outside are Nomex 86%, Kevlar 14%.
The glove is five fingered instead of a mitt and this is an advantage.
Only one glove is needed and thats the way its sold. A person without problems with their wrists would only need one.
If you have weak wrists or arthritis then I would recommend two gloves like my husband bought two for me.
The Ove Glove has silicone blue stripes on the outside and that keeps things from slipping out of your hand.
They are machine washable in cold water
Cons
they require ironing to dry
the gloves get very dirty and they do it quickly. Very white and pretty when you first get them, they yellow quickly from the heat.
My Experience
I really didnt expect the gloves to work as well as they do. I couldnt imagine a glove allowing you to hold something at 540 degrees even for a few moments.
These really work. I first tried them out at Thanksgiving with my cast iron skillet full of cornbread cooked at 400 degrees. It was easy to use both gloves to pick up and hold the pan until I could set the pan down to cool.
Since then I and my family have used it every time we have to handle something hot.
The silicone on the outside makes it easy to grip a light bulb that has just blown and replace it with another bulb.
My husband and daughter have used the glove while barbcueing and roasting oysters outside.
The glove looks like it is woven with straight stitching, almost like crocheting. The silicone stripes cover each finger and the palms, thumb making it very easy to grasp.
The lining is 83% cotton and 17% polyester and is tightly woven.
I would recommend the The Ove Glove to anyone that cooks or has heat related needs.
Just as a side note I knew I had heard the word Kevlar before and then it came to mind, Kevlar is one of the materials that goes into making a bullet proof vest.
