CDFrye120's Full Review: Edward Lear and Paul Galdone - The Owl and the Pus...
One of the most sweet and positive memories of my early childhood is the story of "The Owl and the Pussycat", at the time read by my grandmother - I can actually picture her in what was called the "Florida room" in her house (which I never really understood, since we LIVED in Florida). The version I had back then was a Golden Book, I think.
So naturally when I became a mother it gave me great pleasure to buy this story, in the form of a board book, for my child. My youngest daughter knows that this is "Mommy's favorite".
The edition illustrated by Jan Brett (which is the one my children now enjoy) is so colorful and beautiful. Each page is very detailed - in addition to the poem there are many things to talk about, name and point out. There are many different kinds of fish, trees, flowers, fruits, etc. on each page as well as beautiful scenery. We even got to talk about the "runcible spoon" which looks a lot like a spork.......
This is a wonderful classic which should be shared with every child. I wouldn't trade it for the world!
