| ariel10575's Full Review: The Pampered Chef Professional Cookware Double Bur... |
After years of eating pancakes, and putting off making them week after week because of the time involved in making them, I thought I had found a solution with the infamous TV Product, The Perfect Pancake. Nope, sorry, not gonna happen! Yes, it made Perfect Pancakes, but that was not my problem. Time was the problem, and that product took forever and a day in comparison to my previous, tried and true way of making pancakes in the electric skillet. I began to think that I would be stuck making 4 small pancakes at a time, waiting to get them done, and flipped, and having uneven doneness due to the electric coil that heats it up. Then, to my delight and surprise, Pampered Chef saved the day, and just made my year!
What did they do? Well, they came out with a new addition to their Professional Cookware line, and it excited me for sure! As soon as it was available for me to purchase, I ordered it, and waited for it to arrive. The day it arrived I was ready to pull it out and start to use it, but I put it off with too much else going on.
About a week later, I was thinking about what to do for dinner. I remembered that I had some bacon in the fridge my mom had given me, and I decided to finally try out my new griddle along with the other new Pampered Chef products I received, and make breakfast for dinner!
I started with the bacon on my indoor grill, as I wasn't ready to use the griddle. While it cooked, I prepared the griddle for pancakes. With my box of new products came a new gift set called the Good Morning! Breakfast Set. It has...well, had a 9 0z. box of The Best Baking Mix, the new Small Nylon Turner, and a Star Pancake Mold. I decided not to do the mold this time, and just stirred up the mix, washed the griddle and turner, and set to seasoning my griddle with oil. Once done, I turned the stove burners on medium, filled my handy dandy batter dispenser (the best part of The Perfect Pancake), and waited for the go ahead from the griddle.
All seemed well, and I dropped batter for 6 pancakes on the griddle. I had room for 8, but I was nervous about flipping, and decided to hold off this time. I had 2 more pancakes that usual to watch, and did not want to ruin any of them! Before I could imagine, the pancakes gave me the signs to flip. I flipped them all, with ease even, and they were all a rich, even, golden brown! Is it possible? Did I make the perfect pancakes? I had to wait for the taste test to know for sure.
In what seemed like a second, the pancakes were done, on a plate, and the next, and last batch was on the griddle. They were done, off, and we sat down to eat. I tell you, I have never finished pancakes so fast before!
I pulled out the syrup (coconut, thank you!), and butter. My hubby grabbed the chunky peanut butter for himself, and we sat down. Eager, I cut up my little boy's pancakes, and put butter on my older boy's pancakes, and then sat down for my own. I poured on the syrup, cut a piece, and indulged. Wow! I made the best pancake I had ever tasted in my life! It was light and fluffy, and melted in my mouth. My family liked it as much as I did too. I'm a hero!
What makes this thing so special?
(The features list is information from materials Pampered Chef provided to me in hard copy, not online. All commentary is my own, or taken off the product itself.)
Size- 10" x 18": It also has a lip that comes up about an inch or less from the bottom, to keep anything from flying off when you flip! The size makes it the right size to fit on top of 2 stovetop burners. And that includes gas burner, electric coil, and even glass or ceramic cook tops. You should read the directions for any special directions for your particular stove.
Pour Spout: This allows you to drain off any liquid, such as bacon fat, or fat from any other meat that you have cooked on this griddle. It is found on one corner of the griddle.
Hard-Anodized Aluminum: What does that mean anyway? It seemed like just another buzz word to me, so I did a bit of research. This is what I found from the manufacturer itself, "Hard-anodization is an electro-chemical process that toughens the surface of the aluminum and makes it harder. In fact, hard-anodized pans are twice as hard as stainless steel pans!" I will have to take their word on it, as all pans are pretty hard to me!
DuPont Autograph® Nonstick Interior: I understand that this is top of the line. With this, you do not need to season the pan. As long as it works, and does not flake off, I'm ok with this!
Exterior - Hard-Anodized: No coating here! It is left like this for durability and to allow you to scrub it with a nylon pad and cleanser to remove tough, burnt on stains.
Oven-safe to 350°F: Yes, you can pop this beauty into the oven and bake on it, if you wish.
Riveted, Phenolic, Upright Handles: This is a cool feature. The rivets keep the handles intact, while the phenolic makes the handles heat resistant and keeps them cool to the tough while you are cooking on the stovetop. You will need to use oven pads or mitts to remove it after baking in the oven.
Lifetime Guarantee: Did I just write Lifetime Guarantee? You betcha, I did! That is the ultimate reason why I went ahead and popped the money out for this beauty. If anything breaks, chips, flakes, etc with it, I can get it replaced! YAY!!!
Use and Care Information: With every Pampered Chef product, you will receive a manila use and care card, alone with the recipes for Lasy Day Pancakes and Confetti Potato Cakes.
Exclusive: This product is produced just for Pampered Chef, and is made in Thailand. (YAY Survivor Thailand!)
Do I have to do anything special to this griddle? Any tips to remember?
From what I have experienced and read, there are several things that will keep your griddle in top condition! First, you want to only wash it by hand with hot soapy water and a sponge or cloth - nothing abrasive, so keep the steel wool away! It is big enough that I would not want to put it in the dishwasher anyway, and that would not be good for it either.
As for tools, you want to stick to nylon, bamboo or wood. Metal tools (including knives) could damage the coating, and plastic, as I have seen first hand with other cookware, will just melt. Would you like some plastic with your eggs? Been there, done that, not gonna do it again!
Not that you could do this, but do not put this in the microwave oven. Also, much like stoneware, direct flames, such as from your broiler is out.
Other than that, just love your griddle and use it to the fullest! 8 pancakes at once! 8 grilled cheese sandwiches! French Toast, oh la la!
My Recommendation
I think this is a wonderful piece of kitchen cookware, and is the favorite now in my kitchen. I would recommend that everyone that makes a lot of pancakes, eggs, grilled cheese sandwiches, and more things like that, you should have one; especially if you make a large quantity at once. If you do not make items like those, then you do not need it. It is not for everyone.
If you do decide that it is for you, then contact your friends, family, and Pampered Chef Consultant. You NEED to hold a Kitchen Show, and get this as your half priced item. I do not recommend, unless you are rich or desperate, to purchase this at full price. If you have the time to call as many people that you know as possible, get them together for some fun, food, and a good time, then host a show, collect outside orders, and get this for yourself with your hostess points or as a half-priced item.
Once you get this cool griddle, let the flapjacks fly, and the bacon fry, cause breakfast is just minutes away!!
Update 9/19/02:
Currently, this product is on back order, as is the Morning Mix that I also talked about. Hopefully, they will be able to get the supply up soon!
