| hlbirk's Full Review: The Pampered Chef Small Sauté Pan - Item 2762 |
Whether you're more like Martha Stewart or Chef Boyardee in the kitchen, you'll probably find yourself reaching for a small skillet more than once. Pampered Chef's Professional line is absolutely the bee's knees of cookware! For $38 and a lifetime guarantee it can't be beat!
The Small Saute Pan is a great piece to get if you're not sure about spending $440 on the entire 10 piece set. It's 8 inches in diameter, which makes it ideal for preparing omelets, grilled cheese sandwiches or even crepes! The small size makes it great for elderly, college graduates, singles or anyone that cooks small portions. We use this pan at least 3 times a week to make scrambled eggs for breakfast!
The interior of the pan is coated with DuPont Autograph, which gives it the non-stick surface. Because of this you won't have to use so much oil or butter when cooking...which means less fat! Cooking in less liquid also means that your food will retain more vitamins and minerals.
Pampered Chef's Small Saute Pan has a hard-anodized exterior which is grey in color. Not that Martha Stewart would ever need to, but for those of us who can relate with Chef Boyardee, this means that the exterior can be scrubbed with a nylon pad and cleanser to remove any Spaghetti-Os that tried to jump ship. (Not that you would be making something like that in this small pan...but you catch my drift)
So, Heather, what else is so wonderful about this cookware piece? Well, let me make a small list here:
Oven-safe to 350 degrees: Never fails, just when you get that Hamburger Helper going someone rings the doorbell right? With the Small Saute Pan you can move it into the oven to continue cooking!
Riveted, phenolic handle: What the heck does that mean? Phenolic is heat-resistant yet stays cool to the touch. Even with this feature you should still keep all pan handles turned to the inside of the stove when cooking with small children around! An oven mitt or pot holder is still recommended when removing from the oven. Rivets are used to keep the handles intact, which means they won't wobble.
LIFETIME GUARANTEE: This is a biggie! The entire Professional line carries a lifetime guarantee. There really isn't much else to say on this....it's a NO BRAINER!
I do want to take a second to elaborate on the use and care of this Small Saute Pan. Some information taken from the Product Information Guide given to Consultants from Pampered Chef....I have edited and used my own words in most cases.
General Cleaning: 1) Always allow cookware and lids to cool before rinsing or cleaning. 2) Washing by hand is preferred. Cleaning in a dishwasher may result in an accumulation of harsh detergents dulling the surface, and is not recommended. 3) To clean superficial marks from exterior surface, wipe with a damp cloth. Because of the non-stick surface I will say that there shouldn't really be a need to put this in the dishwasher! During my demos I usually burn a slice of cheese in the pan and then leave it set to hardened even more. People are thoroughly amazed that I can take the Nylon Turner and very easily scrape the cheese off the pan, wipe with a paper towel and it looks like new!
Safety tips: 1) Do not leave empty cookware or lid on a hot burner, or allow to boil dry, as overheating may damage the non-stick interior. 2) Turn handles toward the countertops to avoid extending out over edge of stove or adjacent burners. 3) Do not use hard-anodized cookware in a microwave oven, or expose it to direct flames such as broiler or campfire. 4) Fumes from OVER-HEATED non-stick cookware can be hazardous to the sensitive respiratory systems of pet birds.
I have had several people inquire about #4, but there is nothing to worry about unless you severely over-heat your pan! Regular, everyday cooking will not harm any pet birds.
Again, if you're looking for a small pan to get started with before making the plunge into high dollars, I would highly recommend getting the Small Saute Pan from a Consultant through Pampered Chef. The lifetime guarantee makes it all worthwhile!
