Pros: Gets tough stains out, even the ones you don't know are there.
Cons: The soap can be costly. The machine may leave carpet a little damp.
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend this because it works. I will never have to replace this machine. I am very happy with my purchase and very happy with the results.

I actually bought the Rug Doctor. Yes, it was the infomercial. I have two dogs. I shampoo my carpet fairly frequently. I love carpet and am willing to deal with the maintenance of keeping the carpet clean.
I have gone through two regular carpet shampooers and asked myself how much more money I was going to throw away on those before I got a machine that was durable enough to withstand constant use. Between blood from the dogs getting hurt, juice being spilled by a nephew or just everyday wear and tear, I needed something durable. The Rug Doctor is it.
This machine has successfully pulled stains out of the carpet that I thought I had gotten out previously. They were deep down stains and the Rug Doctor got them. I had a reoccurring stain in the hallway and I could never figure out what it was. I still don't know! Every time I cleaned it with the other machines, it would clean up and then mysteriously reappear over time. The Rug Doctor got it out and it has not been back since!
I realize the cost was an investment, but it was one I was willing to make and have been happy with since.
The machine comes in a box ready to go. The instructions are very clear on how to add the cleaning solution and how to operate the machine. You need to pull the machine back towards you to operate. There is a lever under the handle you squeeze to spread the solution. The machine I bought was the Wide Track. I think the Rug Doctor works much like any ordinary cleaner, just better!
