The Bottom Line: I would highly recommend this book as a must read! Especially if you are prone to find things humorous. And even if you've never read a thing from Douglas Adams.

This book, like anything else done by Douglas Adams, is a masterpiece. For those of you who don't know who Douglas Adams is let me give you a quick sum up. He's English. He started his career in life in radio and created the "Hitchhikers Guide" series which he later transformed into the book "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" which later made him famous. He's written other great books such as "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe" and "So Long and Thanks for All the Fish" which are both extension to the original. He's done other work that is equally as impressive, but the Hitchhikers series will always be my favorite. He passed away last year.
This book, "The Salmon of Doubt", is more of a compilation of work he has done from different places, but nonetheless its all him. Unlike his other works, this book more or less is a semi-autobiography and semi-biography all rolled into one. Well, a majority of it is. What I mean by this is mostly everything in this book was written by him but it wasn't written for this book specifically. For instance, it has excerpts from an interview between him and BBC. It has articles he's written for different magazines and newspapers, and it has letters he's written for various reasons. There are a few chapters to his last book at the very end that he was working on at his untimely end, which is all very nice, but the great part about this book is all the articles. I knew Douglas Adams was/is funny, and every time I find something that he wrote and read it I rediscover every single time how funny he really is. No exception to this book. You also find out how very much he was in touch with things. With "Life, the Universe, and Everything" to quote him. How he perceived it all, the simple things really, made complex and in some unfathomable way humorous pointed out by him as such.
He writes of when Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy came out. He writes about his early days in the radio business. He talks about walking dogs in New Mexico and how odd they were. He even mentions a very humorous occasion that involved him and his contact at Walt Disney when he was supposed to be working on the film with this contact that wasnt getting back to him and so Douglas writes him a letter with a page of contact information. Its great. This book also has instructions on how to leave the planet. Very interesting.
