An Oasis From The Ordinary

Written: May 28 '08
Pros:Room quality, exclusivity, location!
Cons:Not suitable for families with small children.
The Bottom Line: The atmosphere creates a soothing environment in the midst of a fast paced town. One has the option of the nightlife as well as the solitude from the masses.

South Beach is an internationally renowned nightlife destination; however, for most vacationers the only option is to hear the cacophony all hours of the night from one's hotel room. The Sanctuary is a haven for veteran travelers with discriminating taste. Although the nightlife is spectacular, the option to relax by the roof top pool or have services at the spa/salon is a welcomed respite from the whirlwind of activity typically happening in the area. Travelers will appreciate discovering one of the increasingly few hotels that has the ability to offer the comforts of home and perks of such an exclusive hotel.
I was pleasantly surprised with what The Sanctuary has to offer. My room (all have the same set up) had a living area with a bar that connected directly to the bedroom and bath which is adjacent to the porch. The living area has a high quality cd player and plasma tv both worked well and were easy to operate. The bathroom is split with the wash basin being outside from the toilet and shower. The shower is larger than most and certainly is atypical but it was a welcomed change from the average shower/tub combination. The television in the bedroom was smaller than the living room but it was still good quality and easy to use. My favorite part of the entire room was easily the bed. It was impeccably clean with bedding that was simply indulgent, it was the perfect bed to come back to after a night out or a day by the pool. The patio is a bit small but knowing that you are guaranteed a patio with any of the rooms is never a bad thing. There's room for a few people and the designers certainly kept privacy in mind, you don't have to worry about strangers peeking into your room from another building or next door
The upstairs pool is smaller than the picture would lead you to believe but a large pool isn't necessary when the hotel is so small. All the food comes from the restaurant located within the hotel, it is one of the more upscale and trendy eateries in the area.
The most negative experience I had while staying there was that the Concierge was a little stiff when we checked in; however, I only saw him once during the visit and every other staff member was more than accommodating. At larger hotels the converse is usually true so one small bump in the road had little impact on my overall stay.
Highly recommend it if you can afford to spend the extra money.
