Pros: A priceless sequel.

The Bottom Line: The Santa Clause 2 = comical relief. I have not seen a movie in the theater that had me laughing this hard in a long time.

The Santa Clause 2
102 Minutes
Rated G
Buena Vista
The Santa Clause 2 begins 8 years after the original movie. The elves and Santa have settled in a nice routine. Meantime Charlie has been growing up and now has a 6 year old sister, named Lucy. She knows Santa only as Uncle Scott.
Now at the North Pole it is just a month from Christmas Eve and everyone is cracking down to business. At the main security center and airplane picks up sounds (Christmas Carols) from far beneath the ice. (aka the North Pole) The team goes to Elfcom 1 since the airplane is coming back for another pass. That measure did not work so they move to Elfcom 2, Santa arrives. Bernard (#1 elf) is getting worried; the plane is still on track straight towards their location. They move to Elfcom 3 then 4. Elfcom four is total dead silence but in the reindeer barn someone is playing Christmas songs. The airplane is picking up on that. Curtis is the music player and once they shut of the dancing/singing Santa toy, there is silence. The planes radar looses the signal and the plane flies off. Bernard reminds the 900 year old elf Curtis that he has to tell Santa about the other clause and fast. Curtis is the brain behind the machinery I am guessing but he has memorized the elf handbook. Somehow he missed this little clause that Santa could have been working on for the last 8 years.
Along with his cocoa, he is given the naughty list and the bad news all at the same time. His son Charlie has landed on the naughty list and the bad news is that he has until Christmas Eve to get married, The Mrs. Clause. Now it is less than a month away from Christmas Eve and he needs to get to Charlie to help straighten this all out. Charlie spray painted the Gym wall Newman = a crossed out Christmas tree. Scott can not be at home and at the North Pole at the same time and somewhere he has to find a wife! Poor Scott. Curtiss idea is to duplicate Santa, the toy Santa can stay here and the real one can go take care of Charlie as well as find a wife. Now for the meeting: in attendance are the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, Father Time, Cupid, and El Nino. Tooth Fairy asks if he can change his name, the board declines his request, again. Santa tells them all that he has to get married, they are all shocked.
Curtis makes the toy Santa, more like a robot that looks like an animated Santa. Off Santa flies on Cupid to the Miller house. Remember them? The ex-wife Laura and her new husband Neal, the psychologist who didnt believe in Santa. Well in the last 8 years Laura and Neal had a daughter, which is Lucy. Charlie has grown up a bit and now is in Jr. High; Principal Carol Newman is a tough one that is for sure. At the Principal Newmans office the four of them (Scott, Laura, Neal, & Principal) discuss what Charlie has been up to. Charlie is just sunk in the chair. Apparently the only time Principal Newman sees Scott is when Charlie is in trouble. Maybe if you were around more, Charlie wouldnt be acting out to get your attention. Slam, Scott tried a quick witted comeback but Newman is the master it seems.
Meanwhile at the North Pole, the real Santa is reading the handbook, and fixing all of Santa Scotts lax mistakes. He has gotten sloppy in the last 8 years and the toy Santa is determined to fix it all up. He has forgotten that he is the pretend Santa, and daily growing more like a dictator instead of a pretend Santa Scott. Scott in the mean time is still looking for a Mrs. Clause. His time is running out, quickly. Will Scott be able to save Christmas?

My Two-Cents:
The Santa Clause 2 was so worth the hyped commercials. I so enjoyed watching this in the packed movie theater. The movie picked up 8 years later so if you have not seen part 1, go rent it before attempting to see the sequel. Actually you could get away without seeing part 1 but you might miss the underlying jokes in the sequel. The music is great and of course the set design and costumes really make the movie. Since kids play the elves, (except for Bernard) Tim and the other adults must have had a blast making this movie. The elves didnt have too many speaking parts, but the ones that did, did a great job. There was only one glitch I saw and that was near the end when the two Santas are fighting over the sleigh.
Suitability For Children:
I would say if they can sit down for at least 90 minutes they should be fine for this movie. So kids ages 4 and up should be good to go. My kids have not seen this yet so when they do I will add their reactions as well.
Will I See This Film Again?:
Yes, matinee with my husband and the 3 kids.
I will be buying this on DVD when it comes out to add to my collection.
