I purchased The Sims2 Pets Expansion pack because I wanted to give my family a Yorkshire Terrier and other pets. On the back of the package it claims choose from a wide variety of cat or dog breeds well its not fully correct, there is only a handful of breeds to choose from. However it is still a fun game and Im glad I purchased it.
To create a pet there are six steps that I am going to share with you. Step one is choosing a name, gender, size, and age. During step one you can write a bio for your pet if you want to. Step two is where you get to choose a breed. Step three covers coat colors and markings. You get to select the pets coat color and fur type, and choose from markings like spots and stripes. Step four is archetypes and modifiers. Here you get to make adjustments to its face and body parts such as floppy or pointy ears, a thing or chubby body, a long snout or stubby nose, ect. Step five is just picking out a collar for your pet incase it runs away. Step six is where you pick the personality for your pet. There are five categories for pet personalities they are genius/doofus, hyper/lazy, independent/friendly, aggressive/cowardly, pigpen/finicky.
Your Sims can train their pets by discouraging certain behaviors by scolding them and encouraging others by praising them. Neither you nor your Sims can control your pets completely. You cannot direct your pets actions nor can you cancel their actions. Pets satisfy their needs as they see fit within the boundaries of their training. The pets have needs that you can help fulfill by making certain things available but keep in mind the old saying you can lead a horse to water but you cant make him drink. Pets have eight main needs which are hunger, comfort, bladder, energy, fun, social, hygiene, and chew/scratch. You can breed your pets, train them, teach them behaviors, teach them tricks and give them careers. Pets have seven learned behaviors which are housebroken/yard broken, eat pet food/eat Sim food, playful/hostile, clean/filthy, respectful/destructive, stays off furniture/goes on furniture, calm/disruption. With this expansion pack you are able to adopt a pet, give up a pet for adoption, call in an obedience trainer, report a lost pet, and/or call pet registry. Pet registry is to register the perfect breed you created or to rename a pet. I mentioned before that pets can have careers, you should know there is only three to choose from; security, showbiz, and service. Not only can your Sims have cats and dogs but they can now also have contained critters such as the womrat and bird. Just to give you a heads up this expansion pack adds Werewolves and a skunk.
There is a new tool called the "Hammer" tool which makes remodeling so much nicer! If you want to make a room bigger, add some new walls outside of a current room, then use the Hammer tool to get rid of the one wall that's blocking the new addition from the old. Much nicer than having to live with all of the previous walls! Also, the walls you remove are assigned a value and then that much is added back to your funds, much like selling old objects to replace with new. Remodeling isn't near as expensive as it used to be either. Another new tool allows you, with one click, to level an entire lot to the level of the sidewalk. You used to have to drag the cursor over the whole lot (and you had to exclude the boundary squares) to level it and even then, there was no guarantee that it would be even with the sidewalk. This new tool makes it much more simple and quick. You can still use the old leveling tools if you want variable terrain, though.
One of my favorite things to do is to greet a stray pet, make friends with it, and then adopt it as my own. After doing so the stray pet is no longer a stray but has become part of my household.
