Our family is a huge fan of playing the Sims. After having the other expansions we just had to get the Sims 2 Pets expansion pack for the Sims 2 game as well. It was not a hard find we got it at Walmart near us for $29.99 on sale. I bought the game only a few months back. Now it is part of our Sims 2 game play all the time.
How to install the game:
It is simple enough to install the Sims 2 Pets expansion pack. First be sure that The Sims 2 original game is installed because with out the original game installed this one will not install. To start the installation process, just remove the plastic from the box. Take the disk out and put it in. You then choose what install option that you want. You can choose to do a custom install and place the game where you want it on your computer. Or you can choose to use the recommended install which will place it right on your C drive for you. Then you will be asked for the Sims 2 disk 1 from the original game. You click done and then it checks for updates on it's own.
You will be asked to register now or register later. I chose now and just did it. You also will find the CD key on the in side of the box that the Sims 2 Pets expansion pack comes in It is in black print on a rectangle shaped white sticker in side of that box. Enter that when the game asks for it. From now on you will click the Sims 2 Pets icon to play the game instead of the original game icon. That is it for installation. The whole thing takes minutes.
What you get with this game expansion pack:
Now that you have installed the expansion pack you will see new items and pets in your Sims 2 game. Of course all of your people and progress from the original are still there. You can even add pets to their homes. A new family will appear in the family menu and a house over run with kitty cats in another house menu. You are able to choose from many big breeds of dog and small breeds of dog. You can even create your own custom mixed breeds and so on. There are a lot of options to choose from.
Some of the breeds include Husky, German Shepard, Collie, poodle, Min Pin and many more. Like I said there are a lot of options to choose from and to create from. You can change the colors of your dog or cat. Then if you want you can even change the texture of the fur, the coat style and eye color. Pretty much any feature can be changed or modified.
If you look under the objects sections there is a new icon to click on. It is in the shape of a pet food bowl. You now have a full section of pet items. There are food bowls for cats and dogs, there are pet beds and dog houses. You can even buy a hamster or a parrot of some sort if you want in that section. There are bones, chew toys, kitten toys and much more. You get many objects.
If you look under the floors tab you now have floors and walls that are pet related as well. Along with art and photos of animal print. Animal print couch and many more items that are new. You still have all of the stuff in the older version only you have a lot more new ones added now that the expansion pack for Pets is in.
How to play:
To play the Sims 2 Pets game is simple. You play just like you play the Sims 2 original game only you have to care for your pets. Make your pets first. Or go in to an existing house and call to adopt a pet. You can adopt a dog or a cat. Or if you prefer a younger model you can adopt a kitten or puppy. Be aware that the provided dogs on the original screen have puppies on the way so if you adopt the female in to one of your Sim's homes you may end up with up to 6 dogs. If you have more dogs then you want and want to get rid of some you can. You just call up and place your pet for adoption.
If you want to breed a male and female dog that can be done, but it takes work. You need to make sure that you have a relationship with the breeding dog. This way when you request from them to try for a puppy they will listen. However, if the relationship between your dogs, or your dog and the dog's mate is not high enough they will not mate with each other. If they do mate. This is done by them going in to a dog house and mating behind closed doors so to speak so there is nothing shown in this manor. A child can play and never see a thing.
If the mating was successful you will hear a jingle bell effect. If it was not you won't hear any thing. If your dog mated with an out of house hold dog then you will get an extra puppy most likely If the two dogs live in the same house 1 less puppy can fit in the house hold. Depending on how many people and animals are in the house your dog may have from 1 to 6 puppies at a time. You can sell the puppy, give a puppy to a friend or request the animal cop to come take it away.
You can not train a puppy to do trick or obey commands. You can teach them behaviors though. And when they are adults which is in 4 Sims days you can teach them to sit, lay, roll, come, stay and more. The better they know their commands and have good behavior the more money they are worth. Your dogs can even get pet jobs. They can be a rescue dog, acting dog and police dog. The cats can do the same. I am not much of a cat person so I don't really mess around with the cats very much. Oh and you can also call a trainer to help train your dog if you need to.
If your dog has a job they can advance in that job by training. Once they are fully trained in the required field for that job they will be able to advance and get a promotion. They get paid for their jobs which means more money for your Sim's house hold.
Graphics and sound:
The sound is pretty much the same as the original with all the original music and effects. The graphics have not changed much but the pets look real. The graphics are great as the original games graphics are. The game is clear, runs smooth and has no problem with video or sound.
Requirements for the game:
You need to have Windows 98 and over in order to run and play this game the proper way. We use Windows XP on the computer we play this game on.
Who can play this game:
The Sims 2 Pets is rated E for every one. It can be played by children as young as 6 years old. My daughter is six and she plays it daily. We all enjoy playing this game. It is easy and a lot of fun to play.
My recommendation:
I would recommend buying and trying this expansion pack with your Sims 2 game. It is fun to play and passes time. Believe me time flies when you play it before you know it hours have gone by. I enjoy this game. Even as an adult I have a lot of fun playing it. It is good for all ages. I do recommend giving it a try.
