Pros: Easy to follow, short time frames for each stage keep boredom from setting in
Cons: Not great for bread, potatoes, ice cream lovers...
The Bottom Line: It works. VERY well. Follow the program and there's no way it WON'T work. Hard to not love something like that!

| MUGirl's Full Review: Arthur S. Agatston M.D. - The South Beach Diet: Th... |
I can't say enough about this book. At first, I wondered if I'd REALLY ever get used to something called "ricotta creme." But after seeing the results, I can't knock it!
My husband and I tried this before we got married... in the eight weeks it took me to get through the program in its entirety, I'd lost 34 pounds. My goal was 20. And I built muscle!
The most important part is actually FOLLOWING the book. Anyone who thinks the book is doing the work for them is mistaken. Like ANY diet plan, you have to DO it. This one, however, makes it easy not only to lose weight, but to build a healthy heart... dual motivation for people like me. Ultimately, we ended up purchasing the South Beach recipe supplement, as the recipes in the book were a tad boring at times. But like any program, if you want to save the cash, you can supplement the book with recipes from online sources... we've done that too.
Overall - a GOOD, solid read. Read the book first, see what it can do, THEN start. Refer to it frequently. Keep track of what you eat and when so you start to recognize the patterns your body maintains in terms of eating times and amounts. And enjoy a healthier lifestyle.... highly recommended.
