stegosuarus's Full Review: Terry Pratchett - The Truth
Terry Pratchett has outdone himself with this new offering 'The Truth'. Considered by even some of his own die-hard fans to have been having difficulty finding innovative story lines at his prodigious production rate, well, any criticism cancelled.
The book tells a wonderful story of the dawning of the printed word and the cheapening of the valuable if not previously magical qualities, of the original hand carved word and rare tome. With volume printing came disposable opinions. The word became devalued, the newspaper truth became fish and chip wrapping-paper headlines and smudges.
A story that questions whether all progress is good, pulls the leg off journalism and bites old boys networks for all they are worth. And laugh. Did I mention that? You laugh a lot, out loud, sometimes you even have a warm smile for the characters pacing out their hour.
A truly enjoyable read, that only makes you sad when you realise that you've come to the end of your lollipop. But you could just start over again and get all the deeper meanings you may have missed first time.....
